Guest House Ouka

I’m Bahareh, a female solo traveller, and this was one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. The dormitory was very clean and spacious, with plenty of room to feel comfortable. The staff were kind and really helpful, and I had a wonderful stay overall. A special thank you to Taylor, who was incredibly kind and helpful. Even when we weren’t staying at the hostel, I felt comfortable going to him for help or advice. He felt like a friend I could turn to, and his kindness made my experience even more special.

The only drawback for me was the locker size. Each guest has a small locker, but it isn’t large enough to fit a suitcase. I stayed in a mixed dormitory this time, although I personally feel more comfortable in a female-only dormitory.

We had a really lovely stay at this guest house in Takayama. The whole place was beautiful, modern and very clean. The common area downstairs was especially nice, with manga, computers, a TV and a dining area where you could have something to eat or drink. There was also coffee available and everything you might need during your stay. The showers and shared bathrooms were spotless, and there was also a very clean laundry area. We stayed in a private room with a shared bathroom, which is something to keep in mind when booking, but everything was very convenient and easily accessible. I would have personally preferred to have a small sink in the room for things like brushing my teeth or removing makeup, but it wasn’t a major issue. The room itself was spacious and comfortable. Overall, though, the guest house was extremely clean, well maintained and had a lovely atmosphere. Everything felt quite new, and the little details, such as the slippers, were a nice touch. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend it!

The only things I didn’t particularly like were that the windows in the room couldn’t be opened, which made the room feel a little claustrophobic at times. The price was a little high, but accommodation in Takayama is generally quite expensive.

This guesthouse had friendly staff and a nice common area. They had a lot of free information about things to do in Takayama. I only stayed here one night while moving between other accomodations. Didn't love that the showers were on a different floor to my dorm but they were clean and at least there was a back staircase so you didn't have to walk through the main lobby on the way.

I have stayed in probably hundreds of hostels and this is the first one that has ever allowed children in the dormitory rooms.
