Great Pyramid Inn

Well-located property with a great view from the restaurant of the pyramids and a slightly obscured view of the Sphinx (due to vegetation). Construction work directly in front takes place throughout the night and detracts a little from the ambience, but totally not the hotel’s fault (I hope they don’t lose too much of their view). Good and silent split system air cond. Handy to the Sphinx entrance to the Giza complex. The doorman Ali Baba was incredibly helpful, as was the young man who helped us with our bags. Breakfast was quite good, and the restaurant patio was well-shaded during this time which was welcome.

The room was not what we had booked - a double with window view of pyramids. We were given a balcony pyramid view, which we purposely didn’t book because we knew it would be too hot to sit outside (high 30s) so had planned to enjoy the view from the (as per pictures online) chairs in the window. We were shown to a room that is difficult to find on the website but was incredibly cramped, having to squeeze between the bed and a chest, with a tiny bathroom with little shelf space, a terribly saggy hard downward-sloping mattress, and a narrow balcony which (surprise surprise) was too hot to sit upon - which is why I didn’t book this room category in the first place. Yes I could have gone back downstairs and complained but we had to race out to make our GEM booking and neither of us felt well at that point, and we just gave up. The fridge stopped working midway through night 1 due to a faulty plug; I rang downstairs and they said they’d send someone immediately (they didn’t). Luckily we managed to run a cord to another plug and hold it in place with the chest. We had to phone for fresh towels after our room was cleaned on day two (we called twice before the front desk actually brought them up). We found the food menu for dinner limited (as has been noted by others) with mainly quite heavy, rich dishes, some more simple choices would have been great. We thought the guy singing was great.
