Basically the location. Being the only accommodation in Ngong Ping, you could reach Lautau Peak literally in less than an hour (if you are fit enough), so definitely it is the best place for sunrise. Besides, it is far from all hustle and bustle so you could certainly enjoy a fair bit of tranquility.
Don't expect anything comfortable. Hygiene is OK but indeed have got room for improvement. The only staff of the hostel is not very welcoming.

I didn’t sleep at the property because it was too much of an hassle to get there in the afternoon/evening.
After 6pm no public transportation, only an expensive taxi ride.
From Hong Kong Island it takes 2-3 hours to reach.
After 5pm no restaurants or other food options (or the possibility to buy groceries). You have to bring your own food to the hostel.
Not an hostel at all (though this is a general problem in HK)
