Central position. Staff friendly overall. Clean

Tiny car park difficult to find. Breakfast seemed quite disorganised. They had run out of all roast dinners by 6pm. Quite steep stairs unsuitable for elderly or disabled guests

Room was large clean and comfortable. It had a great walk in shower and good tea making facilities. The menu for dinner was varied , reasonably priced and well presented. Breakfast was prepared to order and well presented

We loved the quirky, period feel to the building and the incredibly friendly, helpful staff. The location was perfect - a short walk from the venue where we were going to a gig (the Apex). Food was very reasonably priced and arrived very quickly.

The coffee. We were disappointed the only coffee available was in sachets, ditto the milk, and there was no filter coffee available at breakfast - just the sachets, an urn of hot water and a jug of milk.

The location was excellent, free parking for residents and the staff were friendly

Soiled towels were found in one room on checking in, propping the door open to the room. They were then kicked into the corridor (didn’t want to touch them!) These were mentioned three times to members of staff to get them removed, but when we checked out the next morning they were still there! Unacceptable considering how badly soiled they were. We attended a music event and got back to the pub at 10.15. We ordered drinks at the bar, but were less than impressed to be told the pub (not just the bar) was closing in 15 minutes, they had no port behind the bar, one of our party wanted a coffee, but was told that wasn’t possible because the machine was in the kitchen and the kitchen staff had gone home! Despite being residents we were still hurried up and given a 5 minute warning to finish our drinks or take them back to our rooms! Finally at breakfast one of our group asked for poached eggs when filling in the breakfast sheet the night before. We were advised that might be possible depending on the chef’s attitude in the morning! At breakfast ONE very sad looking egg yolk (minus any white) appeared on top of one of two huge slices of toast. When asked ‘Only one?’, the response was ‘That was what was on the order sheet’, but I saw it written and it said ‘eggs’. Another one was offered but at this stage we decided to leave it. Fortunately our group of 4 managed to find some humour in all of these situations, but other guests may not be quite so easy-going. In essence, the staff are pleasant enough, but just don’t seem experienced or geared-up to run the ‘inn/hotel’ side of the business. It’s a shame because the pub & surroundings are actually quite nice. I doubt very much we’ll stay here again.
