Ocean View B&B

To be quite honest the facility was lovely with a fabulous view but the breakfast sucked! And we had not been told how to access the accommodation which was around the back of the home, on a cul de sac. When we arrived at the correct house number, we pulled onto the driveway but were part on the lawn because there was already a car there, and the neighbor across the street started screaming at us! The b and b owner came out and showed us where to pull around and park, saying he thought his wife had sent me the information re how to access the accommodation, which she had not. This felt more like an air b and b…we were on our own. After getting the key from the host, we had no further interaction with him, and never met marina, his wife.

The breakfast! 2 bananas, milk, granola and a package of refrigerated bagels! Marina, the b & b hostess, had messaged me re: what kind of milk and bread we liked. I told her cows milk and either whole wheat toast, croissants or English muffins, but packaged bagels was all we got. Their own guest info book described continental breakfast as including yogurt, juice, assorted breads, fresh fruit, cereal…we went out 2 hours after we got there to the supermarket and bought our own yogurt and orange juice. It was more like “bed and barbecue” rather than bed and breakfast - the fridge had TWO types of barbecue sauce, ketchup, vegemite and soy sauce, but no juice or yogurt.

Just minor inconveniences but overall, really nice. The mattresses were too soft for our liking, but we like hard mattresses and do understand that many kiwis like soft mattresses. There was no real dining area but then it is not a complete home and we found the kitchen fully equipped with all we needed

Alex and Marina were a great host. Always willing to help if needed but have left us for privacy. The place was clean and tidy. View was exceptional. Safe parking just in front of the house. Billiards a bonus.
