Mid-July stay at Monument House
I came to Bennington VT for my daughter’s wedding. The weather was warm (mid eighties) and the house stayed cool. My guests and I used open windows and fans at night to stay comfortable. We rarely used the available AC units. The house is a lovely period home (1920/30’s) with all modern conveniences (WiFi printer with scanner was a nice surprise). Lucy has considered every need (that I had). Bathrooms were bright, cheerful, clean and well equipped. We spent a lot of time on the porch and strolling the gardens - lovely. I would recommend this home to anyone seeking a peaceful, tranquil setting. Also, the location is very convenient to both Bennington and N. Bennington. The neighborhood offers some pleasant strolls or good runs.

Yes, this house truly is superlative -- beyond comfortable with many thoughtful, personal touches; meticulously well-kept; situated on a beautiful, extensive piece of ground; and welcoming to our 4-legged family members. Lucy, the owner, is very kind and accessible and has many suggestions to maximize the local area experience; and her local agent is equally responsive.
Our family wanted a quiet week to recharge and that is exactly what this house delivered. We stayed the week between Christmas and New Year and had a great time hiking locally, cross-country skiing at Wild Wings near Manchester, and enjoying down-time with board games and reading. We split meals between local restaurants and cooking in the exceptionally well-equipped kitchen -- the Crock Pot Slow/Instant Cooker is awesome!
The house is historic so it has its quirks but that adds to the charm -- loved those wide-plank floors and the secret passage staircase. The wifi is good, the beds are comfortable, and the linens and towels are of very good quality. And there's plenty of room. Despite having the option of a heated bedroom, our daughter chose to sleep on the sleeping porch; she had a space heater and electric blankets and loved it -- even in 25 degree weather. The main level bedroom was cool and quiet, and our sons were comfortable in their room with the upstairs TV viewing space.
We would happily return to this house. I would love to see the gardens when they are in bloom. If you are fortunate enough to rent this property, you will not regret it.

I absolutely adored every moment of the precious time I spent at Lucy’s beautiful home on Monument Ave. I found the house to be wonderfully nostalgic; full of history, memories, and a vibrant sense of connection to the village. Loved perusing the library—fellow old book lovers will definitely want to plan a shopping trip to DogEars Book Barn, which is just 10 minutes down the road.
The house sits on a stunning piece of land (just a walk down to the end of the property is a treat in itself) with beautifully tended gardens, a huge maple tree to read under, a tranquil view, and a huge swath of endless grass for my dog to play on! We both really loved every minute and can’t wait to return, which I would not hesitate to do in any season of the year—thank you Lucy for your incredible hospitality; I loved swapping corgi pictures :)

All in all, the property was amazing. I was a little afraid of breaking something as much of the house was aged, with all modern conveniences though. The location was great and the host was most gracious and helpful at all times!

Beautiful antique, perfectly maintained and spotless. Wonderful owner.
We had a great week at Monument House. It is a beautiful house on a beautiful street with other historic homes. Everything we needed was there--the house was very thoughtfully outfitted and absolutely spotless when we arrived. The back covered porch and grounds were a delight, and we spent many hours relaxing there. We felt completely welcome. There were binders containing very helpful information and pamphlets about the area. Also, the owner, Lucy, was a terrific long-distance host, and provided much valuable and appreciated guidance on sights to see and things to do. She also checked up on us periodically to be sure we had everything we needed. I can't say enough positive things about this experience. I was sorry to leave and would go back in a second. Thank you Lucy!!

Lucy's home is comfortable and welcoming. The location is convenient to Bennington shops, restaurants, museums and is very walkable. Seeing the Bennington Monument from the backyard was an added bonus. We spent most of our time on the back porch; the view is gorgeous: gardens and mountains! The neighborhood is peaceful and quiet.

Lovely, well maintained home in nice location!
My golden retriever and I thoroughly enjoyed our 3 month winter stay 2016-2017 in this charming, well maintained home in Old Bennington. The setting is lovely with an expansive yard and views of the historic Bennington Monument. We stayed warm and cozy, and especially appreciated the convenience of the attached garage and snow removal amenities. The owner, Lucy, and her property manager, Wendy, were very kind and hospitable, with attention to detail, ensuring a very pleasant experience. Thank you so much!

50th Wedding Anniversary & Grandbabies
The Monument House far exceeded our expectations in regards to location, amenities and accommodations. The detailed instructions were very beneficial.
Our son and daughter-in-law flew in from Texas and stayed in the house with us for a week and our daughter, son-in-law and twin Granddaughters from Bennington joined us on numerous occasions.
We spent several evenings on the porch enjoying the beautiful views and on one occasion watching four deer in the back yard.
We originally had the property 11 days but decided, if available, to return after our one week trip to Maine. Called Lucy to see if the property was available and she said yes. We returned for another week to enjoy our 10 month old twin Granddaughters.
We would certainly recommend the Monument House to our family and friends. The property has everything you need for cooking and enjoying relaxing with your family.
Lucy and her management team made our stay so special. Looking forward to our next stay at the Monument House!!

Amazing historic home, best vacation rental ever!
What a GREAT experience. The owner, Lucy, was so nice to work with. I think this is her family home and it is furnished with wonderful antiques and local interest trinkets. It is truly unique in my vacation rental experience.
The house was built in 1828, located adjacent to the giant Bennington Battle Monument, it appears to be a historic building. The grounds are several acres planted with lovely flowers and trees. This house is a perfect mix of 19th century antique and modern comforts. There are enough rooms that it is easy to get lost when you first arrive.
Although we prefer to dine out, the fully equipped kitchen allowed us to enjoy several dinners and hot breakfast many days. A Keurig coffee maker was a pleasant surprise. We enjoyed coffee on the large porch each morning and cocktails in the evening. We saw deer several times and many birds. (Lucy provides binoculars and a bird guide as well. What a nice touch!)
Bennington is a nice town and allows for many day trips to NY, Mass, and southern Vermont attractions. The Vermont Country Store is a must and 'The Clark' is a highlight. There is so much history in the area that we plan to visit again. Lucy provides book, maps and guides to many of the local attractions, by the way.
The town of Bennington is large enough to contain several large grocery stores and chain stores as well as many locally-owned restaurants and cool one-of-a-kind shops.
You can walk to the Old First Church and Cemetery (Robert Frost Grave) from the house, and the Monument is steps away, The elevator ride to the top is fun and ends in a great view.
We will definitely visit the Monument House again. It is truly a special vacation rental. It's not possible to exaggerate the experience. Highly recommended!
Thank you, Lucy.

THE place to stay in Bennington area!!!
This is now our choice to stay while visiting the area. We have been visiting the Bennington area for the last fifteen years, occasionally twice a year. We have stayed at B & B and hotels in Vermont while on various visits to our daughter and family in the area. This year we opted to try renting a house since we were staying Thanksgiving week. Best decision we could have made.
The location of the house is centrally located in southwest Vermont with reasonable driving access to New York, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.
There are many attractions for anyone to enjoy. No matter what your interests are: history, active life style, sporting events, touring, arts, shopping or just enjoying the walks and views in quiet relaxation, it is all available from the house
The house is welcoming, warm and a great place to settle in...just like being at home away from home. The house is walking distance from the Revolutionary War monument, museum, cemetery, historic New England church and golf course with public restaurant. Downtown Bennington is just a longer walk or short drive away. A small town atmosphere with friendly people to greet you.
A short drive away allows the usual big name stores like WalMart.
Open the from door and you feel like a its a step into the past.
The interior of the house provides plenty of rooms with welcoming furnishings to have the family visit or get away to relax with isolation and quiet. The number of books provides an invitation to browse and relax by the fire place with a wood fire on a snowy evening. We choose to avoid the phone, internet and TV while away, but the house accommodates. The house is well appointed, clean and maintained, as described. The owner is well organized and provides copious communication and information to easily adapt to the surroundings, and appointments while a local young lady serves can help if required. No problems or issues.
We enjoyed hiking with our dog off leash in a different area every day, a visit to Williams College, shopping in Manchester, breakfast at the Blue Benn, dinner at the Country Club, and Bennington Station...the snow and wintery scenes.
Most of all we enjoyed our family together at "our house" with the two children exploring the rooms, finding books to read, hiding out, playing games or just sharing stories with no distractions...all while having a wood burning fireplace blazing to keep late November cold nights cozy!
What an experience! Highly recommended!

Beautiful home!
We contacted Lucy to inquire about staying at her home to celebrate our parents 50th anniversary, and are so glad we did! The home is beautiful, with a gorgeous view and lovely gardens. We spent the better part of our time, while at the house, on the back porch and enjoyed every minute of our stay there. Lucy is so nice to work with, and we appreciate her opening up her home for our stay. I brought my greyhound Parker, and she was very accommodating with that, and he was very comfortable there as well. Everyone had a very nice time, and we enjoyed coming back to Vermont after so many years and being able to stay in such a nice house!

We had a wonderful stay at the Monument House! Everything was perfect and Lucy was great to work with! We ran down to the Bennington Bookstore on our way out of town to purchase a few of the books which we started but hadn't yet finished. Thank you!

Experience history at this beautiful home!
As a westerner, I love New England for its history as much as the scenery. One of my favorite memories of visiting Vermont years ago was Monument Street in old Bennington, with its stately historic homes decorated for fall. The street was like a scene from a Martha Stewart episode, and this house is one of those homes I admired, just a few houses down from the Bennington Monument!
We were there for my son's graduation from RPI, just 35 minutes away. We thoroughly enjoyed this historic house---my relatives loved all the "nooks and crannies" upstairs, and I slept on the cool "sleeping porch" one night. It is very homey and comfortable, more comfortable than some of the more "modern" places I've rented on vrbo.
The property has a sweeping back yard and beautiful flowers adorn the deck and front and back gardens. Eating out on the deck beats going to any restaurant, and I appreciated the well-equipped kitchen with modern appliances. It may seem trivial to point this out, but they had high-quality, sharp, kitchen knives that made me feel right at home cooking.
It was very relaxing: we loved the place so much that we felt we had better "quality time" sitting on the deck reading than braving the crowds in Manchester. There are many historic sites within walking distance: the Bennington Monument, covered bridges, the old church and cemetery, and the Bennington museum with the Grandma Moses gallery and one of the oldest US flags in existence.
If you love history and historic charm, stay here!

Excellent Vacation Home
This was our first time to New England and I have to say Vermont is the most beautiful state in the several that we visited. Monument House was an absolutely gorgeous home filled with wonderful antiques and with everything you could ever want. All we needed was our food and clothes. We loved Old Bennington, Manchester and Burlington...all had its' own character and personality. We had two toddlers with us, ages 2 and 4 and Monuent House provided toys, games and the best back yard that two little boys could ever want to play in. I must say my favorite bedroom and the one my husband and I slept in while were there was the sleeping porch. It's surrounded by screen and as soon as you'd open your eyes you were surrounded by the most beautiful trees with the sun shining so slightly through them. We felt like we were sleeping in a tree house. We came all the way from Hawaii and if we ever go back to Vermont again, there would be no other place I'd want stay. Thank you so much for a great experience and for all your help for the many months we planned our trip. Mahalo and Aloha...until we meet (or email) again.

Happy Memories in Beautiful Home
Antiques abound throughout this home, except kitchen, which has all modern appliances and equipment. Owner provides tips on house, nearby attractions, shopping, restaurants. A favorite place was the spacious back porch, overlooking lush landscaped back yard. Within walking distance to Bennington Monument, Bennington Museum, and Old First Church; and close to downtown. Highly recomment this rental property.
