The Ryokan was in a quiet area, the reception staff was super friendly. The room was large. The Onsen was great. We had a traditional breakfast and it was amazing, great experience. We wished we would have stayed more than just 1 night.

Wonderful location in the quiet northern part of Kyoto close to the Golden pavilion and Ryoanji, all in a cycling distance. The facility and rooms are spacious and beautiful. View of the mountains from the public bath and the swimming pool. Very kind staff who gave all kinds of help. They gave us information about the shared bike system just in front of the ryokan (bike share docomo). There were many futons (Japanese mattresses) in the closet of the room and we could make a double or even triple layers for those who are not used to sleep on the tatami floor. Superb Japanese style breakfast and dinner.

The opening hour of the pool was too short (10 am to 4:30 pm). We like to swim before the breakfast and after a walk later in the evening. So it was a little inconvenient for us.

This Hotel has exceeded my expectations. Let us consider all the pros: -Staff: they were really friendly and professional. -Check-in/out: quick and efficient. -The Hotel: it is really nice, modern and still traditional. It is located a bit far away from the city center, but on the other hand it was very quiet and calm. -The Room: it was the best room we stayed during our whole Japan trip. Sleeping on the floor was not a problem for us. -Dinner/Breakfast: we booked traditional dinner and breakfast which was amazing. -Onsen: we used the onsen after dinner (around 9:30 pm) and there was no one. We had the whole onsen for ourselves and we enjoyed it a lot. -Miscellaneous: we used the complimentary shuttle to kinkaku-ji which was very convenient.

I am giving a 10/10 to this hotel, but there are some smaller things that need to be mentioned: -location: it is quite far away from the city center, so consider this if you plan to do some night sightseeing in the city. -Yukata: a guide on how to wear the complimentary yukata would have been much appreciated.
