This place was truly a little bitsize of heaven - an incredibly peaceful and tranquil location, with such amazing wildlife around you. We woke up to monkey's swinging in the trees above us almost every morning, and often saw Asian Water Monitors venturing onto the premises as well as swimming casually past. Other wildlife we saw included bats, numerous birds and many more. We never really ventured far as we just wanted to spend as much time as possible on this property. The owner will go above and beyond for you. During our stay, he cooked us lunch, dinner, got us tea and coffee whenever we wanted and took us anywhere we desired on tuk tuk, which was very impressive when you consider the fuel crisis at the time of writing this. He even arranged an early morning safari tour on the river by boat for us. We could not have asked any more from the owner and the location was truly exceptional. Make sure you check this place out - I promise you won't regret it.

Water in the shower was slightly cold for us, but not a massive problem at all.

Beautiful location next to the river where you could sit peacefully for hours. Great owner who was very attentive to our very need. This was a perfect place to end our three week stay in Sri Lanka, and a real respite from the busy city of Galle. A must for any traveller!

The wildlife

The unfinished room we were given, faulty shower, needed tuk tuk to get anywhere. And probably the worst thing we had to pay booking.com. fee to the owner, an extra £70 on top of accommodation costs. Absolute rip off.

This was an amazing place to spend one of our last nights in Sri Lanka. The back garden is a truly magical place. It is like having a river safari in your back yard. We sat their and watch Monkeys, Beautiful huge water monitors (like a small crocodile), Stunning birds. It was so peaceful. I could have spent hours watching the river, nature and wildlife. The property itself was beautiful and extremely comfortable and the host is an amazing friendly and kind man. Couldn't recommend more : )

It's a truly lovely place very close to Galle. It's located right next to the river, so not only it is nice and quiet, but also the having breakfast is full of surprises - we saw quite a lot of wildlife. The owner is amazingly welcoming and helpful. Definitely recommend!

Lovely and clean room. Coffee, tea and electric kettle in the room. Delicious Sri Lankan breakfasts served by the river. Lots of birds, monkeys and other animals. A mosquito repellent will come in handy

Honestly one of the best places to stay in Sri Lanka! We both couldn’t believe how nice it is. The room especially the bathroom is so modern and spacious, AC and wifi worked perfectly. The surrounding area is so peaceful which is a lovely break from the busy towns. The host goes above and beyond, answering any questions we had, driving us round in his Tuk Tuk and also serving an amazing breakfast!

What a lovely place! Best host in sri lanka who made us feel warmly welcome. The terace was incredibly full of life. We saw swiming varans, lots of birds just at the breakfast table. Dont miss this!

The only bad thing is we stayed only one night, we should have stayed longer. We already miss it!

The host was brilliant! Done everything for us start to finish, drove us around anywhere we wanted and collected us again. Couldnt be more thankful for his services, place was a good location and has a beautiful garden area right next to the river which is a nice spot for reading and relaxing. Very kind and helpful to us during our stay would highly recommend.

Not a bad point but bring mosquito repellent due to area :) apart from that nothing bad to say!

to start with the owner is the kindness man I have met on my to Sri Lanka to date. He used to drive to have dinner in town, arrange for day tours for me and has been really genuine. He even offered to pick me up from the train station. I am along with a couple from india were some of his few guests after covid. so financial he suffered and his household of course was effected. To be honest I will list the good things first. The room was fairly clean with running shower and ac. The house is 4 minutes away from the main activities by tuk tuk. I went on a river safari which was interesting. The breakfast is amazing and balanced. he makes sure you eat well and that is healthy. also every now and then he will offer you some tea. super safe for a solo female traveler. i had some allergies so he took me to pharmacy and even got some aloe Vera for me from his neighbor.

bring your mosquito repellent, and your electric wall plug in mosquito repellents. the room needs maintenance which I am sure the owner will do as soon as he gets more guests. The shower water sometimes is week and the sheets along with the bedding need care. Also, I think the room will benefit from a closet and an exhaust fan. side note: a peacock and family of monkeys lives on the rooftop so they can be a little noisy at night. i was totally fine with them and was in love the nesting peacock. also, I am if you get offered a tour to moonstone mine by him or anyone just reject. all are cheaters. The sales men will try to sell u jewelry which is over priced by 800% . ridiculous not only that, even some of the gems are fake - glass and they will try to sell it as real. the mine itself is not actually functioning it is there just for show.

Courteous host, good food

Rukmal is a great host...we reached Galle at around 3 pm and called him for directions.... however he came to pick us at the bus stop.....and then we reached villa bird gate....the place was so beautiful and felt really positive to be there...the room was clean and the view from the room was also great.. The food we had was delicious...if given chance will definitely like to visit this place and stay here again.

Super nice owner, soothing lake view, greeny garden, lovely breakfast, what else we could ask? highly recommend, especailly for the poeople who prefer quiet place!!
