Kingsgate Hotel Te Anau

I stayed in an upstairs room overlooking the lake, and the location couldn’t have been better — right across from the lake and an easy walk to the main street with restaurants, shops, the information centre, and tour departures. The room was a great size, warm and comfortable, with a very cosy bed. The bathroom was large and included a bath with a shower over it, plenty of hot water, and strong water pressure. Breakfast was included, and the buffet had plenty of choice. The dining room is spacious with lots of seating, so it never felt crowded. There’s also an on-site guest laundry, which was very handy. The washer and dryer each take 2 x $2 coins. Just note that there is no lift, so if stairs are an issue, request a ground-floor room. Overall, a comfortable and convenient stay in a beautiful lakeside location.

Location is perfect just next to the lake (we can see the lake while seating in their restaurant), ample parking space, staff is courteous and extremely helpful. I had issues regarding my Milford Sound bookings and the staff at reception helped me communicating with concerned people and also guided me. The breakfast was also good. The rooms were clean. Staff helped me allocating adjacent rooms and opened the connecting door for the 2 rooms I booked.

It is not value for money. I ended up booking 2 rooms each having 2 double beds. Eventually my family of 4 used only one room and we ended up paying for 2 rooms.

Stairs to upstairs I should have asked for downstairs as I have COPD

Almost everything I liked it, specially the friendly staff.

Hotel restaurant could have been open till 9:00pm, would be more helpful as we find difficult to find a place for dinner.
