We planned a 3 day ski weekend and were very comfortable with the house and its accommodations. We had a problem with the oven, contacted property management and a temporary oven was delivered before our next meal. We'd love to stay again in other seasons to be able to enjoy the outdoors as well. Best of Caanan is top notch.

The kitchen lacked storage space for personal items. Recommend you bring a large tight closing storage bin for personal food items unless you want to share them with Mickey Mouse and his family. The location was excellent for our needs. Property management scheduled delivery of firewood. There were several issues with the cleanliness of the property as it was nowhere near spotless.
Cabinets, shelves and drawers in the kitchen need a full cleaning. We cleaned out three drawers and several shelves to make this useable during our stay.
The owners have a large amount of family memorabilia in the kitchen that is taking up space on the counters and in the kitchen cabinets.
We did not use the 2nd family room built as an addition on the main floor. The 2nd family room has large areas of mold/mildew on two walls near the ceiling.
I cleaned the owners vacuum and purchased vacuum bags to sweep the floors.
The key only worked well in the main entrance, the rest of the door locks including the lock on the garage access door need to be replaced.
Gutters overflowed during moderate rain, and there were several indications on the ceiling of water damage. I used the owner's ladder to clean out the gutters over the deck. The walkway to the deck has washed out creating a safety hazard along the side of the house. Garage door track needs realigned.
I sent emails to the property manager outlining these issues.
We looked at other properties to rent in 2022 to find an alternative to the Wald Haus for our next extended stay in Canaan Valley. I would not recommend this property in it's current condition to a friend or relative.

House has everything you could need for your stay. I recommend bringing tinfoil to line the old cookie sheets and plastic wrap for any leftovers. The patio was great for our toddler and dog to enjoy the fresh air and scenery without running off. Both large TVs have Netflix for streaming tv shows and movies (you’ll need your login info). There is WiFi but it tended to be slow and cut out at times while surfing the web, even after resetting it twice. The beds are comfy, bathrooms nice and clean. The Timberline-exclusive trailhead just outside Dolly Sods was awesome for taking a short hike to the top and walking down the Valley View Trail. We enjoyed playing cards at the large table, watching the setting sun through the trees, and taking in the crisp evening air.Unfortunately, the condition of the house went downhill since our last visit and we were quite disappointed to find a number of broken items (dishwasher rack, disposal, numerous lightbulbs). The rental agency was quick to replace the battery in our smoke detector that started beeping the evening after we arrived (that was a rough night). A number of improvements would go a long way towards increasing the rental experience:-Replacing the missing window screens and putting in screen doors to the patio would really help with ventilation. Replacements screens are still being made.-Due to higher humidity and lack of ventilation in the back living room, there is mold high up on the walls. Increasing ventilation and putting in a dehumidifier would really help. We avoided that room.-Weather stripping at bottom of the doors needs replacing. Creepy crawlies were finding their way in.-Owners should remove the trunk from the large bedroom. It is full of mothballs and makes the bedroom and adjacent rooms smell awful. We stuck it outside on the patio during our stay.

If we had no doctor's appointments, we would have stayed as long as possible. I would encourage others to stay at least a week or more. We were truly rested when we returned was better then described so we enjoyed the wildlife and did not leave it until the day we came home and enjoyed every day. We would reccomend it to everyone who likes the quiet life.

It was nice to put kids to bed upstairs and just relax in master suite without disrupting kids' sleeping schedules. It was also nice to be able to put our dogs' crate in washroom area so he could rest and feel safe at night. We had deer visit and we loved the sound of the stream flowing near the property. A wonderful property!!! (Our kids' loved the variety of DVDs upstairs. We didn't have enough time to watch all of our classic faves.)

Our family of four enjoyed renting Wald Haus. The location was fantastic for the activities we had planned. If you want to go to the Dolly Sods area for hiking, you will have access to a private entrance with parking. The house is located near Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley State Parks and is within an hour of the Seneca Rocks area. The home itself is roomy, with a nice deck area and a good sized kitchen. While the kitchen was stocked with most cookware and utensils you may want, be aware that you will need to supply your own ziplock bags, Saran wrap, foil, and so on. We were only provided with three dishwasher tablets and we were there for eight nights so you may also want to bring those as well. The beds were comfortable and the full bathrooms were conveniently located. There is both a family room area as well as a living room. The living room can only be accessed through the bedroom or the deck which is something to keep in mind if two families were sharing the house. Overall we had a great time there and would rent this property again.

Wald Haus had everything we needed. The kitchen was well stocked with all of the things you need for cooking. The beds were comfortable and the house had a good supply of sheets, towels, wash clothes, etc. The house was very clean and well maintained. Over all our stay was excellent.

The neighborhood was safe and convenient to lots of great activities including ski slopes, golf course, restaurants, and hiking. There is even a trail into Dolly Sods in the neighborhood! We enjoyed watching wild turkeys in the yard from the comfort of the couch and cozy fireplace. We can’t wait to return and couldn’t recommend this house and rental agency more. Everything from check-in to check-out was smooth and easy. The COVID precautions and cleanliness of the space helped make for a relaxing and safe stay!

The house was beautiful and the way it was decorated made you feel like home. So quiet, comfortable and relaxing. With two living rooms and all the windows the view inside is almost like being outside. Would definitely recommend and we are ready to go back.

My first visit to the Timberline Community was ahh.maz..ing. The common area is in the middle of a wildlife preserve with trails around two lakes and horses in pastures. Lots are huge and private. Can’t really see neighbors. Private entrance into Dolly Sods also. Easy to gain entrance at the gate. Super nice folks. I’ll be back as often as I can.

The beds were comfortable and there were books and movies available for use and many places to sit. I loved the large windows that looked out on all sides. It felt a bit like we were in a treehouse. The view from the deck was beautiful, but there was not a lot of comfortable seating out there, so we didn't sit out there long. Even though it wasn't air conditioned, it stayed pretty cool inside, after the initial heat dissipated from being closed up when we arrived. There were a good bit of gnats and flies that got in, but they mostly stayed around the windows and didn't bother us too much. Having the garage to store our bikes and golf clubs, etc, was super convenient. We enjoyed fishing in the lake and my husband and I both caught a pretty sizable fish, even though we are definitely not fisherman! It was very close to Canaan and Blackwater Falls and the the shops at Davis. I would definitely stay here again. I bet it would be beautiful in the fall.
