Chester House Hotel

I loved everything! The location is just on the other side of river from High street so there’s little noise or traffic. The bar is beautiful and cosy. The breakfast is excellent. I had a family room which was large, bright, spotlessly clean, and extremely comfortable. The bathroom is small but fully modern and spotless. I had a lovely view and the best bed I’ve had in ages - very supportive but not rock hard. Particular compliments to the staff, who are very friendly, efficient, and didn’t hesitate to help with odd questions and requests. It was also very nice, in the age a private equity, to find there is an actual human owner on site, mucking in with the staff. But my favorite thing is simply temperature - it wasn’t too hot in the room! This is a problem I often struggle with in the UK. The modern radiators here adjust as expected and there are extra fans and heaters in the closet. P.S. Check out the Model Village while you’re here!

Pro Tip: When a nearby fire door was opened, it created a little pressure change that would cause my door to bang a little. I just stuffed a tissue between my door and its frame, and the problem was solved. Also be aware that the stairs are steep and there is no elevator. Consider asking for a ground floor room if stairs are an issue, but they will help you with your bags.

Clean good staff good food

The breakfast was very good the room was clean and tidy and the location was ideal for getting places.

Location was good, room was nice. Receptionist was helpful. Parking available which was great.

Beyond noisy room. Room 16 overlooks the road outside and from before 6am there was lorries, and lots of loud talking not relaxing at all! Breakfast was average I asked for omlette, got a one word response of 'no' I opted for scrambled eggs on toast, it came with just the eggs on a plate! Toast came out separately, Poor service overall. Only one biscuit in the room between us! We also ate in the restaurant of the evening staff were lovely, food not great. Seafood risotto had no flavour, salmon Niçoise served with no green beans and not offered an alternative, lasagne and ceasar salad were ok.
