Stunning location! Next to the soothing sounds of the river and views of the mountains around. It's pricey, but worth it for the location, the friendly and helpful staff, and the delicious and plentiful food. Multicourse kaiseki dinner, and filling breakfast - good fuel for tackling the mountain hikes!

The best value in Japan! The included dinner and breakfast was among the best "Japanese" meals we had. This is an authentic lodge, with exceptional attention to customer service. If you have already done the Tokyo/Kyoto/Hiroshima tourist thing, Kamikochi should be on your list in your second trip to Japan.

Considering this is an old mountain lodge, it was pretty well maintained and comfortable. I don't know if I want modern in a place like Kamikochi. If you don't enjoy Japanese lodges and meals, this probably isn't the place for you.

We had a wonderful time at the Nisha-itoya lodge. The staff were very attentive and helpful and looked after us so well. The Japanese food was wonderful and seemed to get better every night we stayed and they were able to accommodate my fussiness and my partner’s veganism. The public bath had a gorgeous view of the mountains.

The staff was amazing. They had great amenities like a library and a free rest area with free tea and coffee. The food was also scrumptious. Would come back just for the food. Rooms were spotless with an amazing view of the mountains. When we were leaving, it was raining and they helped us wrap our luggage to keep them dry. 15 out of 10!

Exceptionally clean. The owners and staff were very kind and made us feel at home. Our kids were very comfortable here. The food (breakfast and dinner) was out of this world. Our six year old wants to go back because of the food :). Great location in Kamikochi, loved the library and tea room. Highly recommend.

High quality meal and service

1. Exceptional service. We left luggage at lodge as we arrived early. When we returned, our luggages have been brought up to the room. Staff showed us around the facilities before bringing us to the room. Forgot something and came running back. When I stepped through the doors, staff was standing there with a pair of slippers and my room key, waiting for me. 2. Onsen has view of Hotaka mountains. Good range of skincare products supplied. 3. Meals were sumptuous and delicious. Wide choice of tea in the lounge where guests can enjoy free coffee and tea. 4. Self-service laundromat available, though we did not use it.

Walk from bus terminal to bridge involved pebbly path which was difficult for trolley luggage. Was even more difficult after a rain. Pavement from bridge to lodge was fine.

Wonderful location and scenery

Everthing! Location, staffs, facilities, cleanliness, food. The room may looks old but it is super clean. I tried the public bath for the first time. It is very interesting and impressive, just blow my mind.
