Hotel Garganta del Cares

Great location that had some parking for guests. At the base of the Ruta del Cares or Canal del Texu and opposite the underground funicular to Bulnes. Had everything I needed - bed, bathroom, and restaurant to eat and drink in. They have some traditional dishes and various options, clear menu stating allergens.

Unfortunately they didn’t have the stew ingredients for me to try but it didn’t affect my overall stay (and I wasn’t visiting in high season).

Beautiful location in the Cares gorge. On site parking for guests. Delicious food and great value menu del dia. Friendly service.

Rooms are basic but I knew that in advance, and overall I thought value for money was decent.

It is what it is: the hotel closest to the start of the famous Ruta del Cares hiking trail. So if you want to enjoy a leisurely breakfast and avoid the hassle of driving from one of the nearby villages and then having to look for a parking place in the morning before starting the hike, this is it. The rooms are very basic, as can be expected in a mountain accommodation, with beds that are old, with wool blankets. But the bathroom is clean, the shower is excellent, and in the cafe downstairs you can have a 3 course menu for only 18 euros, wine included. Personnel (Paco, Juan) is friendly. This place offers value for relatively little money, and we were very grateful to arrive back after the fantastic hike and being able to jump straight into the shower.

Breakfast was a bit sparse. And the beds need new mattresses.

It’s right by two great hiking path so super convenient .
