Hotel Birkent

I was scammed by a taxi driver (a young bespectacled chap) coming from the airport. I escorted him into my hotel, Birkent, when he requested an exhorbitant amount of TL. Reception sorted the matter out. His meter was not visible and he had already accepted another paying customer within the same journey. The breakfast was excellent. It was far superior to the 3 star hotel I had just stayed in, in the Kaleici district in Antalya. There was a kettle in my bedroom together with a decent sized fridge. When i left the following morning, they organised a taxi on a metre for me and the driver subsequently found my bus for me at the otogar.

The hotel was well situated within the old roman walls, in a part that is still older. Plenty of places to eat around. Short walk to the Museum.

Easy to reach, but complex to park as it hard to stop in front of the hotel to ask direction. The room is large, but not very cosy. Breakfast was classic (eg no coffee), it included lentil sup and the yoghurt as excellent.

Location and friendly staff. Room warm and cosy while the night-time temperature was -18 ! However this was exceptionally cold for Diyarbakir.

The best thing about this hotel is its location.

Although it was clean, it was not well organised and well designed. Bathroom is very small that we could not use it easily and safely, there is not anything in the mini bar apart from water and there is not enough sockets in the room for use. Breakfast items were not fresh and adequate! Boiled eggs were boiled a few days before, vegetables were not fresh and appetising at all and more importantly no warm breakfast were available.
