Sintra Center Guest House Escape to Nature

I loved that I had the place all to myself on my one night stay! Or, at least I think I did : ) It was so quiet and peacful. The bed was really mushy, so it didn't feel great on my back, but the peacefullness of the room and property still provided me with an excellent sleep. Carla was there to help me when I first arrived at 3pm on Friday and she saw me off the next morning. She was really helpful and kind. I though the room was nicely decorated and I loved the high ceilings and spaciousness of the room and bathroom. I used the pool twice and took a hot bath, two of my favorite things. It was located very close to Floresta Encantada, where I was attended a yoga retreat on Saturday, so this was the perfect overnight on Friday to get ready and relaxed and to not have to stress about taking the train from Lisboa first thing on Saturday morning.

It was really challenging to find the property - I would recommend adding to the instructions that it is a fairly long walk from the main road if you're getting there by foot. I was on the upper floor of rooms (which I read from other reviews is better for less dampness) however it was still very musty. All of my clothes (especially what I slept in on the musty bed) smelled terrible when I got home. Overall, it was a great value for the price, perfect for one night's stay, but I probably wouldn't stay longer than that.

I loved staying at this Guest House. It was truly an escape to nature. The staff was very friendly and the overall vibe was just peaceful. There's a beautiful garden with a little stream running through it. There's flowers and plants everywhere. The room itself was very nice as well, 10/10 recommend!

I knew this before, but underestimated the "climb" with my suitcase a bit, haha! From the train station of Sintra it's only 10 minutes of walking down (or you can take a tourist tuk tuk), but the road is small and at some places quite steap (and back to the train station/city centre is up...). Definitely a challenge with 35+ degrees, but it's 100% worth it!

We can understand the lack of privacy some people may feel with a transparent door on the toilet. We spent a while redesigning it. The bed wasn’t that comfortable either but we found a way around it.

The garden and pool are delightful with chickens wandering around, and quiet. On the plus side, there was always plentiful hot water. The staff on site that I met were pleasant but there is no one there to help between 6pm and 9am.

The location was very difficult to access by vehicle (forget a taxi or hire car and call for a tuc tuc ) as the road is extremely steep, cobbled and narrow. Once there, the stone steps down to the property are many and uneven and unlit at night without handrail, so unsuitable for disabled or unfit access. My first room was very damp, smelled of new building work and had no cupboards or hanging space, but that was likely an advantage as my clothes did not get unpacked and damp or mouldy. There was a stream running under the building. The second room was dryer and had hanging space - a broom handle strung from the ceiling by ropes - functional but rustic. The towels were tired and rough and never dried off. The bedding was also tired and "used" and damp. This room had no bathroom door. My main complaint was that the staff continuously left my access doors open all day and late into the night into the garden so that anyone could enter. On one occasion, plugging an electrical cable into the socket in my room to facilitate lighting for a private party. I was very upset at this disregard for my security and privacy and made a formal complaint both to the property and the to Booking.com who were unable to get cooperation of the property but gave me a moderate compensation. Because of this security problem I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. Very disappointed. The staff on site that I met were pleasant but there is no one there to help between 6pm and 9am. Contact with the owner was difficult and not a pleasant experience. I felt I was made to feel I a nuisance. I was glad to leave.
