Beautiful views and security was a bonus

We had a wonderful stay at Omega 4 in Altos de Flamingo. The suite is in a lovely gated community and has an amazing ocean view. Our taxi driver took us to the wrong building though we gave him the pin provided so it might be helpful to know that it is the second right road after entering the gate. You go to the end of the road and take a sharp left and Omega is located at the top of the hill. The suite had everything we needed including a fully stocked kitchen, air conditioning and comfortable indoor and outdoor furniture. There are beach towels in the suite and beach chairs and an umbrella can be rented from the company at a very reasonable rate. We loved watching the sunsets from the private deck. The only difficulty we had was when we arrived home exhausted one night at 6:00 pm to find there was no water due to a leak that was under repair down the road. It was near the end of our stay so we didn’t have a vehicle and quickly realized that we were dealing with a company rather than a private host. There was no help available until late morning the following day. You never know how important water and a working toilet is until you don’t have it! In saying this, we would still recommend staying here with a golf cart or car rental and expectations in check.

We aren’t those people who complain about the smallest things but after such a long wait for this vacation, we did have a few disappointments. But first: The Pros: 1. The view is stunning. It never got old. 2. The beaches are gorgeous. 3. The shower was great – clean, lots of pressure. The unit has hot water on demand, so we never ran out. 4. Special Places staff are easy to deal with and quick to respond to concerns and questions. Check in was a breeze and they were very helpful. Special kudos to Juan Diego! 5. No bugs! The Cons: 1. Listing photos need to be updated – not as shown. Exterior concrete is mildewed. The inside tiles are lifting, cracked and need resealing. Could use a deep clean and a paint refresh. The bed is a cozy double, definitely not a queen. 2. Kitchen amenities are very basic – would be great for overnight or a day or two, but not for a four week stay unless you’re happy to pan fry or microwave all your meals. We didn’t use the dishwasher as we didn’t have enough dishes to run through it and not waste water. 3. Listing needs to add that a vehicle or golf cart is a necessity. The condo isn’t close to anything and the long hill getting to the condo is very steep. 4. The pool is in the shade and very cold – I only went in once in 4 weeks. The ocean was much warmer. Finally, for owner consideration – it would be nice to have a grill on one of the two decks and a few beach necessities – like folding chairs, a cooler, sand towels. The area is expensive, and we found it annoying that every beach day involved renting chairs and umbrellas (and not cheap). Just a thought. Overall, we did enjoy our stay at Omega 4. We met some great people, it’s a great area with a fabulous view and the climate is perfect for those of us escaping a long, cold winter.
