Bed was comfortable, warm and clean. Reverse cycle heating was good to have. We appreciated being able to use some fresh produce from the garden.

First thing to say is that my habit is to not say much on what I don't like about a property because I think the onus is on me to research properly. So the following is primarily to support my rating of a bare 7. I have called this review 'a mix of comfort (for bed and heating) and make-do'. Make-do because while the kitchen IS equipped as stated in the property description, much of that is at the end of a long life of service: stovetop, cooking pots, utensils. For whatever reason, we didn't receive the checkin details, including directions to locate the property and the lock box code to access the key, and so had to call for the latter. Comms breakdown was later acknowledged in a message from the owner, but the initial response on the phone was incredulous that I could have found the property without receiving directions, and therefore I must have received the code! Wifi password provided was not correct, despite confirming with owner. It was suggested the problem was a provider upgrade underway, but it never became available throughout 3 night stay. Connection error message very clearly stated "incorrect password". David, I understand managing your properties from 2 hours drive away cannot be easy. However, I also hope you can relate to what I have described here and can see how a little attention to these matters would elevate the experience of what is a secure and comfortable accommodation.

Privacy, facilities, communication

The electric heating pad on the mattress was great. It was wonderful getting into a warm bed. Kitchen and bathroom were adequate. Large shower area and plenty hot water but bring your own shampoo and conditioner. The soap in the shower seemed like hand soap. No salt but there was black pepper. Kitchen has sink, microwave, two-burner hot plate, small refrigerator, and sufficient plates, bowls and utensils. The deck outside is covered and offers some more space if it’s warm enough.

The kitchen/bedroom is very small. To get to the far side of the bed you shimmy through the small space between the bed and the window. And don’t kick the bed posts. That hurts. No room to leave an open suitcase on the floor. If you need something in the suitcase you open it up, take what you need then close it up and put it against a wall to get it out of the way. There’s no heating other than the mattress pad. I was hoping the air conditioner blower might double as a heater but it just blew cool air regardless of the mode of operation. There’s very limited shelf space. There’s another small room connected to the bathroom. Access is from outside the cottage (see wooden step in exterior photo). Another bathroom? Who has access? We heard footsteps, running water and the door closing occasionally. We thought someone was on the porch but nobody there. Don’t know what that was about.
