The location and view into their plantage and hills is magnificent, but it’s important to be aware that its secluded location will also make you spend quite some money on transfers from the secluded offroad location, on average 40€ a day if you are only with two and plan to hike in the nicest places. We appreciated the assistance of the manager, Cristina, who did help us with our program and was initiative and flexible about many things.

Facility We chose the place for our honeymoon for its advertised infinity pool to be able to dip in after hiking. In our case they decided to empty it and clean it just on our arrival and kept turning on and off the water refilling, keeping it in maintenance for all 5 days of our stay. Even if there might have been a water issue (not visible in other ways) like they pretended, it’s a failure of their planning (in a non-touristic season where the arrival of guests is not that frequent) and an apology or a compensation was in place as this definitely affects the price we pay per day. In the room the drainage of the shower was badly cleaned and the room was humid so it made the bathroom smelly after a day and there was no cleaning assistence like in other places of this price range. On our arrival we found human nails in the carpet so vacuming wasn’t really done properly, but the bed and the rest was hygienic. Food There is no other logistic option than staying for dinners and their cook serves ok meals but basically everyday the same. The advertisment on booking promised a la carte three options for breakfast, in our case this was not true and we got served all days in a row a fried omelette although we asked for alteration. If we were lucky a piece of fruit.

Difficult to access by definition but that’s the price to pay to get such a calm place and amazing view

The location of The Retreat is superb. Also the food is delicious and freshly made. We upgraded to a suite and it was modern and spacious. At the moment of our visit The Retreat has been enlarged and therefore the photos were not always matching reality.

The walk to The Retreat can be challenging, luckily our suitcases were carried.

the Wi-Fi was bad in case someone cares for that. And you don’t really get to choose what and when to eat which can be a hustle since there is nothing else around.

It is simply the hotel with the most beautiful view I have ever had. I travel a lot and use Booking a LOT, but honestly nothing could beat this... The landscape around the Retreat is simply magical. The dinner and breakfast were great, the pool too and the beer and grogue too. If you want to be cut off the world for one/several nights and really relax, don't even hesitate to choose this place!

Location of the retreat was 'in the middle of nowhere' which is perfect for just relaxing and enjoying the moment. The pool was nice and had a beautiful view!

Unfortunately, our room had mould on the wall and on our sheets due to heavy rainfall in the area. The language barrier made it difficult to make our complaint understandable and we had the feeling that the staff weren't really interested. We requested a different room, but we were only offered one at a surcharge.

The young lady that works there is amazing! Friendly, informative, and nothing she won’t do for you. We felt so welcome from the second we got there. Beds were super comfortable and all the food we had was excellent. Some of the best food I’ve eaten in Cape Verde, the chef knows his profession! Gardens are kept immaculate n all in all in was fantastic. Walking up was a bit difficult but I guess if you go to sa you should really be expecting a walk! Oh views from all angles of this place are spectacular. I’ve stayed in hotels on ground level in sa but none compare to the views we woke up to here! Amazing job here guys! Thanks guys for everything! X
