Donghu Collection Hotel

Clean, modern, quiet, elegant hotel and very well located in the former French Concession. Cafés, bars, restaurants galore all around. Good price / quality ratio.

There are 2 minus points for me: - absence of closet, only a couple of hangers on a short rod. - breakfast is not on site, but in the main hotel, a very short 1 min. walk away and it can get crowded at times, so you get to seat at big round tables with 8 other people!

Great place for 2 day stopover in excellent location

Needed to download Chinese apps to access all information eg room food service, Local interests etc. An information sheet in English was available but with limited information. Only a few staff had a little English and weren’t always available.

The location of the hotel is THE BEST - there are so many cute little shops, restaurants, bars, and parks around. It's also a very green area near multiple metro lines (within 10 min walk) and nearby a major mall / several shopping options, so really there's no better location for any kind of trip you are planning. The hotel is comfortable and quiet, the room has everything one would need for a pleasant stay. I really enjoyed the breakfast at the restaurant - it has so many local options which change up daily, it's really worth trying! All in all, I really enjoyed my stay and would return when I'm back in Shanghai!

The location is amazing right in the heart of the French concession.

The staff were not particularly friendly or welcoming. The check-in experience wasn't the best, and the receptionist came across as quite cold. Unfortunately, check-out was no better. There was no "thank you for staying" or "hope you enjoyed your stay", just a very bland interaction that left an unfriendly final impression. I was told that breakfast was in another building and was simply pointed in the general direction. What wasn't explained was that it was actually across the road and not connected to the hotel. Knowing that at check-in would have saved some confusion. The room itself was also disappointing. It was very small and the layout wasn't particularly practical. It would probably have been fine for a one-night stay, but I was there for four nights, which made the lack of space much more noticeable. I also wasn't keen on the layout. Opening the door gave a direct view of the bed, which made the room feel less private than I'd expect from a hotel. It wasn't a layout I found particularly comfortable for a longer stay. Storage was also limited, and the open wardrobe by the entrance wasn't particularly practical. It made the room feel more cluttered and offered very little space to unpack properly. I never actually made it to breakfast. It was pouring with rain every morning, and as I had to go outside with an umbrella to get there, I decided to eat elsewhere while exploring the city. In the end, I found much friendlier service at the cafés and restaurants nearby.
