Bowline Hotel

Absolutely loved our room which was right on the water - literally on the pier above the Columbia river: seals barking, ships going by, fresh air, waves lapping. The room was comfortable and well appointed. Note that the floors throughout are polished cement and the decor is modern/sparse. They provide robes, slippers, coffee making. Our room #3 was opposite the ice machine (or in direct line of it) which was noisy when the bar was filling up their ice in the morning. Staff were helpful and welcoming. Valet parking is available for $20/night, though sometimes you had to get your car yourself which was fine. PS the name is pronouced "Boh-lin" as in the knot

The restaurant/bar area was lively and for us too noisy and we didn't care for the music - but that could be generational! Valet parking - perhaps they could have simply assigned reserved spots based on first come/first served. We did pay the $20 night, but we moved our own car several times when staff was busy. Consider it basically a parking fee. There is street parking.

fun vibe as a renovated cannery. we liked the location near the trolley tracks (which we hopped on and enjoyed it. the driver gave a running commentary) Very cool furnishings and comfy beds. we liked our city view so we didn’t hear the sea lions too much. lovely patio to view the sea so we got plenty of sea views AND sleep.

staff was average.

The location on the boardwalk in the heart of town. We like their deck.

Mattress is back hurting soft. No sound proofing with noisy neighbors. Staff seemed like they were phoning it in—maybe it’s hard to get employees in Astoria—we saw lots of help wanted signs. The person who checked us in goofed up our credit card necessitating several calls from Visa over two days. Noisy machines in the lobby. Seemed over priced for the lack of quiet and comfort. Hot with no cross ventilation or AC.
