No17 The Promenade

Gorgeous room, comfy bed, fabulous shower. Breakfast was excellent. Lovely bar area for a drink. Staff, in particular the manager, were absolutely lovely.

Excellent stay in a very nicely decorated boutique hotel facing the ocean with a high quality of service. What else ?

No17 The Promenade sits directly on the esplanade, in a house right on the waterfront, with private parking available both in front and to the side of the building. Our double room was on the ground floor and, as expected, had no sea view, but it was a good size, with a comfortable bed and a genuinely interesting mix of styles. Classic furniture sits alongside yellow bathroom tiles and colourful modern art, and this same contrast between traditional and contemporary runs through the whole house. The restaurant and bar were both excellent. The cocktails were creative and well made, and the restaurant itself, with its Italian focus and strong use of local Scottish produce, was a real highlight. Breakfast is served à la carte in the restaurant, and you order the evening before. The quality was very high, and everything was clearly freshly prepared, something you could see for yourself thanks to the semi-open kitchen. There was freshly squeezed orange juice and a wide choice of coffee and tea. The location on the esplanade is another plus. It's just a few minutes' walk into the centre of Oban, yet noticeably quieter than staying right in town. Dunollie Castle sits at the far end of the esplanade, about ten minutes on foot from the hotel, and is well worth a visit, with a friendly team on site and tea and cake available too. Early check-in wasn't possible on our visit, with check-in from 3pm, but on departure day the team happily let us keep our car in the hotel car park a bit longer without any fuss.

Service was a little mixed. It felt somewhat stiff at first, and a few staff members weren't the quickest, though this was a minor point rather than anything that affected our stay.

It’s a boutique hotel , the real gem is in the decor of the interior of the Hotel , from the Lounge to the Restaurant to the Room - an eclectic mix or a hint of heritage to the hip and avant garde . The Room was extremely comfortable and spacious . The Staff was most helpful .
