The Mora Zanzibar - Luxury All Inclusive

The standout feature of our stay at The Mora was unquestionably the staff. They were exceptionally well-trained, consistently friendly, helpful, and professional, and the service throughout the resort was excellent. The food was also very good, and we had absolutely no complaints about the quality or variety during the main meal periods. The resort itself is attractive and well-maintained, with a lovely pool area, good facilities and excellent drinks and poolside service. Overall, it was a very pleasant and relaxing place to stay.

Most of the improvements are really in the detail rather than anything fundamentally wrong with the resort. There should be easier access to snacks and light food between the main meal periods, particularly at the pool and bar areas. Our room was quite far from the main dining area, so getting something to eat outside designated meal times could involve a fairly long walk and then a wait. The lighting inside the Horizon dining area is also far too bright in the evenings and could be dimmed considerably to create a more relaxed restaurant atmosphere rather than feeling like a food hall. The entertainment was fairly average and at times, particularly with the acrobatic shows, the music was unnecessarily loud for what is otherwise a quiet and relaxed resort. There are also limited activities for older children and teenagers. Finally, the resort is a long way from the airport, although that is fairly typical of many Zanzibar resorts. Overall, these are relatively small issues, but addressing them would significantly improve an already good experience.

The Mora is a world of luxury unto its own on Zanzibar. The location is spectacular - right across from Mnemba Island, with the best fish snorkeling I've had in my life, with a beautiful white sand, crazily soft sand beach. All the staff members I interacted with were attentive and very dedicated, with a special shout out to Omar at the Garden Pool, who took very good care of me. The pools are beautiful with ample lounge chairs and the restaurants were very good (be warned that portion sizes are larger than I was expecting!) The tours office was able to organize airport transfer and a custom Stone Town / Prison Island / spice plantation tour for us, both of which were excellent experiences with no organizational hassle for us.

Considering we booked a suite for 4 people, having only two bottles of water supplied was inconvenient, but room service always promptly brought up more when we called. The provided shampoo and conditioner weren't a great match for my hair type and I wish I had brought my own toiletries from home (I acknowledge this is crazy nit-picky, and I HIGHLY recommend staying at The Mora, but wanted to share this advice for future travelers).
