This place is a treasure. It's council-run, secure with key fob electronic access. Self-catering - but there's a very decent Council-run cafe just next door. If you want to cook, all the facilities are there. Washing and drying facilities for laundry for a longer stay. When you check out, you can leave your baggage securely with them. And all for only £50 per night (albeit this is outside the tourist season).
Nothing from the property's point of view. It is at the top of a hill and the walk down to Commercial Street the main shopping street can be a bit steep in places. However this is no fault of the property.

Enjoyed the common spaces to meal prep, eat and relax. Beautiful house with history.
Maybe a little more information about what was happening for evening entertainment.

Excellent hostel, spacious, comfortable, well equipped large kitchen (renovated 2025). Large dining room and lounges. Useful facilities like laundry, drying room and left luggage. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location for the ferry, town centre, bus station and coop etc

There wasnt any breakfast but the kitchen and dining room were excellent
I think the duvets and pillows needed a wash as well as the sheets
