In town for long weekend to explore city. Hotel in great spot to use river walk. Historic hotel with ambience. Beds were not the most comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful.

From the second we drove up, I felt like they rolled out the red carpet for us!
First of all, we arrived several hours early so I could hit my conference earlier, and I thought my husband would have to find somewhere to hang out til check-in, but they let us check-in early so we were both all set! They also gave us coupons for free drinks and apps at the Crockett next door. The WiFi was fast and reliable, everything was nice and clean. But beds were as comfortable as they could be.
The only negative thing was the breakfast buffet was slightly lacking. Only scrambled eggs, and no toast. I could’ve used some toast and runny eggs. Otherwise, it was great and would definitely stay again next time we’re in San Antonio!

The Menger is a great old hotel that is well situated in downtown SA. The bedroom has recently refurbished. The AC was not working well (and I was too busy to call to get it fixed) A fan helped a lot. the bathroom was perfectly clean, however the taps in the tub never truly shut off so there was always a small stream of water running.
The hotel was very quiet, and elevators got you from room to lobby swiftly. Construction on Alamo Plaza meant the old main entrance was solely for pedestrians, but the newer valet entrance was easy, if often crowded. Front desk staff were pleasant but didn't seem to know where local services were located like a nail salon, liquor store or pharmacy.

This is our favorite hotel in San Antonio. It's beautiful and historic and close to everything.

It was lovely. Don’t let the reviews about the construction steer you away. It’s a beautiful hotel full of history and right in the center of all the things to do in SA.

We came to visit the Riverwalk and the Alamo, and were delighted to find both right out the front door. Valet parking is nice because you get 24 hours for $48 when you’re registered at the hotel and it is also right across the street.

Beautiful historic hotel across the plaza from the Alamo. Clean, comfortable and quiet.

This was a beautiful stay in a great location right next to the Alamo. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our suite was beautiful overlooking the garden area. It had a large "kitchen" area but only a fridge. No micowave so no way to reheat out leftovers
The pool area was very nice and i appreciated the carpet around it so it wasnt slippery. No hot tub though. Room service was very expensive for tiny portions but you're within walking distance of so many dining options. The hotel bar was also excellent. It felt like a historic place and we had a nice stay.

This is a classic historic hotel. The architecture and decor are amazing.

I used to love this hotel. We got there and room internet did not work at all. We called and were told to call another number as their vendor is outside source. Both days we tried to get it fixed. Not fixed. Second night we even went down to lobby and I spent 25 minutes on a call with a person trying to troubleshoot and it would not work. Talked to other patrons as well who had problems with internet. Very disappointed.

Very nice stay. Enjoyed being amazingly close to the Alamo and not far from the Riverwalk. Loved the old world charm.

Coffee to-go cups are too weak when trying to put a lid on them, its easy to squash the cup and spill coffee on yourself

I’ll add a few positives since it was a nice hotel. Huge room that stayed really cold. Heat didn’t work so glad it wasn’t winter. Very clean room and pool area. Pool with huge chess board was fun. Workout area facing pool which is nice to watch the kids. Food was tasty and customer service was okay. They charged me for a kids spring break bag since I booked through a third party and not directly which I thought was a little cheapskate. I’m not sure why everyone raved on in the reviews about the valet though cause my car was returned with a huge crack in the front window that I still have not heard back on. I’m truly upset about this and hope it doesn’t end up being a legal issue. The cars are also kept in an open lot so my car was filthy dirty with bird poop, leaves, moss, and yellow pollen. For the price of the valet they should at the very least hose down the car before return. I would suggest finding the closest covered parking which isn’t that far away and parking there overnight.

It’s historic. Takes you back in time. Beautiful era.

Beautiful hotel; however, room not ready for occupancy: coffee maker not working; TV had no signal; 1 nightstand lamp not working. Told front desk about issues; TV still not fixed after first day; very difficult to maintain water temperature in shower. Had to plug in coffee maker on the floor as maintenance provided a 3-prong extension cord when only a 2-prong would work???

The hotel was fine - comfortable, and we got away without seeing any ghosts! Service, though, was lacking. I requested different tea for the in-room coffee machine, for example, that I was promised by housekeeping but that never arrived. And when we tried to go to breakfast, the staff kept pushing us towards the (insanely overpriced) breakfast buffet, even though I explained (repeatedly) that I have a severe food allergy that makes it unsafe for me to eat buffet food with its risk of cross-contamination. Despite their warnings that the kitchen was “so so busy” that our a-la-carte (and much less expensive) order could take “almost an hour” to arrive, we persisted and had our food in 15 minutes. So there was a sense that we were just dollar signs, not people. But the history was hard to beat for a unique one-night stay.

The hotel was mediocre with small rooms, and the valet parking was a nightmare.
Despite texting our car request, we ended up waiting nearly two hours. Each time we asked the valet manager, we were assured our car was coming. Eventually, we were given our key and directed to retrieve our car from a parking lot two blocks away.
Having to trek with our luggage for two blocks was frustrating, especially after wasting two hours and paying $50 for valet parking.
The hotel provided no assistance, claiming it was a third-party service.

Good hotel. Older with charm. Construction around the hotel made it a little tough to get around Downtown.

We loved the Menger Hotel. The location was ideal for visiting the local sites and we were able to walk to our meetings leaving our rental car at the hotel. We loved the beauty and history associated with the hotel. It was such nice break from the typical Hilton and Marriott. We will surely stay at the Menger when we return to San Antonio.

The hotel location is excellent, near both I-37 and the Riverwalk. The rooms are small (older hotel) and very clean but the furnishings are dated. The tub drain did not work and the room entry light did not work. It was adequate but not what I expected for the price.

The property was amazing the old history was cool
I wasn’t happy to find out the shower was broken
I called the desk at 8:30 at night they said are you Shute as I was standing there with the lift valve in my hand
They offered to come look at it I told them we were leaving 6:40 am Please discount our room
They told me to speak to front desk in the morning
In the morning the front desk said they couldn’t discount I would need to speak to office I called the office when I returned home and yep you guessed they gave me the run around she said looks like you book with third party we can give you a discount
What a shock
I will not recommend or use your property again if I don’t here back from you

The hotels heating and air system hadn’t been updated. During our stay it was chilly outside and due to the age of the unit ( we were told) we had no control of the heating and air in our room. After complaining two night - we were told to turn off our room until and open our window. We were brought a box fan. At 150.00 a night and 48.00 parking daily- we deemed this an unexceptable !!!!

We were aware that the Menger was a historic property and expected smaller spaces, older styles, etc. What we were not expecting and were very unhappily surprised with was the paper-thin walls. You hear EVERYTHING from the rooms around you, the people in the hallway, even the elevator opening. It was awful.
Also, San Antonio is a major construction zone, especially around the Alamo (Jan 2024). The Menger can't control that. However, our room faced Alamo Plaza, and construction work began bright and early (8am) the Saturday of our stay. Nothing better than heavy machinery beeping right outside your room to wake you.
Overall I would say the Menger is worn, the rooms are very small, and you cannot get good rest due to the noise. I will not be returning and I will not be recommending.

The Menger is a beautiful hotel full of history and old beauty. The rooms are beautifully decorated, but unfortunately, no ghosts were spotted. Some ghost-like foot prints did show up in one of our pictures, though. The only issue we had were the beds. They do need to be updated.

It was fun to stay in a posh historic hotel. Parking there was crazy expensive and of course you have to tip the guys parking your car and bringing your luggage.

It was a different kind of hotel experience. The rooms were beautiful, however a bit outdated. There were only a few electrical plugs in the room that I could plug my devices in such as a sleep machine. The toilets flush very loud and the water temperature changed frequently while showering. I was promised room service after my third day, however I had to call the front desk twice to have them come up and clean my room.

Finding the hotel its self was a task, but when I called the front desk clerk Tim Smith helped me. He even stayed on the phone with me until I made it it to entrance.

The rooms were extremely hot and it made it uncomfortable.
