Worst ever hotel!!!

An awesome hotel with amazing service. The room was very Japanese style, which is exactly what we wanted, and I'm glad we had the opportunity to stay there. We had a great view of the temple next door. It was also reasonably priced. The room itself had some scuff marks on the wall. You can see where cleaning staff have attempted to remove other marks to the best of their abilities, but it needs a repaint. There was also nowhere to put your bags, aside from the centre table or floor. The bathroom looked amazing and was great to use, however the wet area smelt of mould, but there was no visible mould. I think if they removed the Cypress bathtubs this would resolve the issue. The air conditioner was overly loud. Even when it was turned off, there was an audible sound with constant airflow happening. The staff were amazing. When we checked in the attendant gave us a map and suggested places we visit. This made our Kyoto trip as we didn't have much of a plan when we arrived. He also suggested a Ramen spot across the road that was awesome. We had a great time and stay in Kyoto, I recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again in the future.

It is next to a busy street so you can hear all the cars and people on the street. Makes it hard to sleep. Great room though

Stayed for one night since touring Kyoto. Was best hotel I ever stayed at. Staff spoke English and Japanese. The restaurant was amazing. The hot tub and upgraded room was worth it.

Hotel staff are very helpful and attentive. Property is nice and has a traditional design. The rooms were quite noisy and were a little worn, the hotel staff were great in trying to accomodate a quieter and better room. Overall staff are really great.

Our stay at the Kanra was excellent. The room was clean, the hotel and staff were extremely welcoming, it is beautiful and smells great when you walk in. We were also lucky enough to have a great view of the tower. The bathroom is lovely and feels luxurious. The heater (air) was a bit loud, so we’d just turn it off before bed. Again, we had an excellent 6 night stay and I would definitely stay again when visiting Kyoto.

Beautiful hotel with fantastic amenities- great location near a historic shrine and subway line.

Excellent experience of the service and the environment of the hotel. However, there are some little issues was found in the room but can be resolved quickly by the staff. There is 2-3 mins walking time from subway station or bus stop, it is extremely convenience for the transportation.

Polite Staff, Peaceful, and Clean Hotel. What else can you ask for!

From the check-in to check-out, it was very enjoyable. I was pleasantly surprised by how quaint and charming it looks. The service is superb. They called around more than 10 restaurants to get us into somewhere last minute. I would definitely stay there again.

Loved the accommodation!

Hotel is beautiful, beds are comfy and the room gives you peace and tranquility, bathroom amenities are well thought out and we very much appreciated them. Just not a fan of the shampoo conditioner and body wash being in big bottles, I know it’s for the environment sake but it feels weird, like a communal soap. Staff was amazing and super helpful. Had the breakfast buffet and it was good, simple yet had multiple options.

We loved our stay here. The facilities were new and clean. Our room was nice and spacious (loved the small tatami area). Staff members were very friendly, professional and very helpful! Definitely recommend if anyone is sitting on the fence.

This hotel was very nice and clean and had a great breakfast. The shower and tub were very nice. Our room was large, good internet, and great location to the train system. it was very easy to check in, and get around Kyoto. I would highly recommend this property.

Great experience at this ryokan. The service was amazing and we really enjoyed the onsen.

Nice hotel however it's not worst the price. You can heard the street at night and upper floor. Super loud, had a hard time to go to sleep. Breakfast is so so. Location is very convenient

The location was very good and the view of Kyoto Tower and Higashi Honganji Temple from the room was also good. The design has a Japanese feel, with the entrance, tatami space, and Japanese cypress wood bath. I think the king size bed was smaller than 180cm. All the staff are friendly and helpful.

Fantastic experience! Very good location right next to Higashi Honganji Temple. 10 minute walk to Kyoto Station. 7-Eleven about 50 yards north on Karasuma-Dori. Family Mart another 50 yards beyond that on the other side of the street. Incredibly relaxing hinoki ofuro (soaking tub) in the room. Had a wonderful dinner on our last night at the hotel restaurant Hanaroku. Incredible food and impeccable service. Highly recommended!

I cannot recommend this place for more. The staff were amazing and so helpful. I’ve never been to a nicer hotel, this place had amazing accommodations and beautiful aesthetics. The check in process was so personable and they’d ask you what you were here for and helped you find the easiest route to get to those locations. I came with a group of 10 and we all got different kind of rooms and we’re all blown away by the quality of the room as well as the amenities. I even went shopping in the hotel lobby and found amazing gifts to take back home to friends and family. They even held all luggage for us after our check out so we continue some sightseeing activities before we left for the day.

Exceptional staff, which is why we returned to this lovely hotel the second time now. Breakfast selection and service are outstanding. Beautiful rooms and large washroom much appreciated. We look forward to another return visit in the near future. Thank you for a magnificent stay!

Area was about a 10-15 min walk to Kyoto train station which was nice (right around corner from smaller station) and more of a 25 min walk to the market and Gion etc but could take bus/subway. Had annex room, which was narrow and not much space for bags but was clean. Staff were so great-always friendly and helpful and made us dinner reservations. Breakfast was the best hotel one we had while in Japan. Would return.

Hotel Kanra has that "it" factor when looking for a nice place to stay on vacation. All the design elements and attention to detail comes together in a beautiful package. Some of their design choices leaned towards form vs function, but we loved the overall presentation and thoroughly enjoyed staying there. One of the best buffet breakfasts we had, balancing traditional Japanese and the variety of their clientele.

Beautiful rooms and bathrooms. Love the tatami mat area and window screens. Very comfy beds and pillows. There was some wear and tear with scuff marks on walls. It would have been good to have coffee machine or coffee filters packs available in rooms. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend this hotel to others.

The place to go if you want the feel of Ryokan but want the modern amenities. Each room is gorgeous, and so well thought down to the tiniest detail. Would put it at the level of the Four Seasons or Park Hyatt. The wooden gated entry to every room, with its own rock garden makes it feel like you are coming home. The welcome locally made sweets and tea/cold towels at check in are some of the touches that make the place special. The only downside is the lack of a proper gym.

Walking into this hotel after a long day was amazing! The lobby is so calming and smells amazing. This was our favourite hotel with a really spacious room. The breakfast was good but wish they had an omelette station like our other hotels did.
