Boutique Hotel Asterisk, a family run hotel

I loved the location, the staff were helpful it was clean and comfortable

We had a garden room and I would have liked a light in the garden or a candle.

You don’t have to be in the very centre of the old town, Hotel Asterisk is in a great location very close to the M52 metro station. The Rokin station is just one stop away where you will find yourself in the middle of Amsterdam. The whole hotel was very clean and in a great location for river trips etc. the staff were wonderful nothing was too much trouble.

The only small thing was the beds. The topper mattress was obviously made of foam. Although comfortable I found it too warm and had trouble sleeping. My wife didn’t have a problem.

The hotel itself was nice and clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. The location is great! Close enough to a lot of touristy places but far enough that it’s quiet and secluded.

The one thing I would add is a mini fridge. I am not a big breakfast person but enjoy coffee, yogurt, fruit and juice but couldn’t buy any to keep in the room

The staff was very friendly, although it changed daily. Questions prior to our stay were answered very fast. Check-in was also very smooth. There is a lounge where you can have a drink. No possibility for food inside the hotel, which isn't really a problem, as there is a lot of possibilities in the surroundings and the hotel also gave out some recommendations. There was free tea / coffee in the room. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The size of the room was nice too. The hotel is very nicely located in a quiet neighbourhood (for being quite near to the center). It's a 10-15min walk to the "real" city center, which can be done nicely along the Gracht of the Seven Bridges.

We stayed there during the heatwave in June 2026. Our room had no AC (only a small fan) and was therefore really, really hot. We had a room directly on the ground-floor and the hotel’s outdoor area, as well as the reception’s outdoor air-conditioning unit, were right behind our windows. As a result, we had to put up with some noise late in the evening and, in some cases, even early in the morning. What’s more, we couldn’t really leave the windows open overnight or when we were out, as anyone could have simply ‘walked straight into’ our room. As we were right behind reception and next to the lift, we could hear all the noise from the other guests. As the hotel is quite old, you could hear quite a lot. Just for clarification: The hotel doesn't have own parking spots. We travelled by car and the parking recommended by the hotel had a lot of bad reviews, that cars are often broken into. We therefore booked an other parking spot, which isn't openly available and is more secure. However, it did cost quite a bit more as a result. All in all we wouldn't stay there during summer anymore.
