Perfect location close to lonely beaches. Nice swimming pool in the garden surrounded by plants. Comfortable bed.

The shower after 1 day was full of water that would not go down, really disgusting and smelly. Even if we didn't have the air conditioning on, in the night there would be so much noise coming from the motor of the air conditioning motor of other rooms. Was then difficult to sleep.

This was our second stay at Hotel Casa Merlín. We stayed in the deluxe bungalow both times. The bungalow provided privacy and two outdoor seating areas to relax or view the gardens and pool. The bungalow amenities were good to have, a kitchen area outside on the patio and refrigerator, in particular. The air conditioning was definitely needed this time around! It is a short walk to a beautiful beach which had few people. Last time we were the only people on the beach. The restaurants nearby are fantastic. Although we had a driver, the restaurants were within walking or biking distance. You can rent bikes from the hotel. The staff was friendly. We had an issue with our shower the first night. I sent a message via Booking.com and they came first thing in the morning to fix it. The bungalow was clean and cleaned every day while we were out. We loved the pool and the grounds. We were fortunate to see a variety of local fauna on both trips. This time a sloth was in the garden area. We would stay there again.

very relaxing, A/C! beautiful lush plants, a pool that lights up at night and fur babies. All around just a nice place, also got water for showers if you’re into that!

Friendly staff, nice gardens, room reasonably clean, common kitchen with most necessary stuff.

The room and bathroom were a bit small, and rather noisy mostly in the morning, because of the laundry room right in front and thin walls an windows. We asked for, and were given, a new room for our last night (for sure a nice touch) but some other noises were also present, probably from some pump nearby. For the price, we thought that the lack of breakfast and wanting to charge extra for things like beach towels was not great. The towels were also quite old.

Very clean facility. The property, including the pool was well maintained and the staff was very helpful.

Location was very nice. Quiet but close by to all important and interesting locations. Place itself was beautifully made.

One has to get aquatinted with the shower and the sanitary arrangements. But still, everything was fine.

We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Merlin. The staff was incredibly friendly, it was very clean and the bed was super comfortable! There is access to the beach right across the main road and a couple restaurants within a couple kms. They also have bicycle rentals which made everything seem much closer. Highly recommend!

The location, only 5 minutes drive to city center.

The rooms are not clean, many insects and bugs inside the room and on the bed. I know that I came to the jungle, but i don't want the jungle in my bed. Even though the towels have been washed they were still old, colored and drity.

Everything about the property was great…Staff was really helpful and nice, pool was amazing and rooms were really clean. I can 100% recommend this accomodation.

the staff... the woman is complaining and everything seems to be a huge effort, not friendly at all maybe something was going wrong at that time but you really feel that you upset her with everything she will help you and answer your questions but in a minimal way

the location is perfect, close to a small supermarket for fresh bred and close to many good restaurants, jaguar rescue center and chocolate art tour! The bungalow is just perfect with a nice outside kitchen and enough space for hang out. beautiful pool for swimming until late! Silvia, the host, provides you with all necessary information and is always around to help out if needed! the best place in Costa Rica!

the front desk lady was rude ALL of the time. we were even afraid to ask for something because she never wanted to help and use a really aggressive tone all of the time. Also I needed to do some work stuff and the Wifi never worked

I thought the price was good and location was good. And in the pictures, the room and the pool looked good too. But only in pictures. In real life, it wasn't like that at all. Second, the staff accommodated my requests at the time of booking: they allowed for an early check in time (I didnt end up going early due to changes in my plan but I appreciated their effort) and added some extra flowers to my room at my request. But I did not end up staying after seeing the place. No refunds either.

Many things: The place did not have a good vibe and did not look like the pictures. The room was very small. The pool area was not very inviting. When I told them how the place did not meet my expectations at all, the staff was rude. Worst of all - no WiFi. I could not connect to show my booking details. And I could not cancel it. The staff said they contacted a technician for WiFi, but it was Saturday afternoon, no one was going to come fix it in time. Anyways, it's better to go see this place before booking. I asked to cancel my booking and give at least a partial refund. They did not cancel or give any refund. I booked a new place for myself and left. The staff was not respectful that it was a Saturday during my vacation and not willing to accommodate me. Next day I messaged management who took the time to talk to me but was not apologetic and made excuses for the deceiving pictures and the WiFi. In the end, I didn't get any compensation. Maybe others have had a better experience but I will not recommend this place. I ended up staying at Hotel Banana Azul. Excellent place, facilities and great staff.

My husband and I loved Hotel Casa Merlin! The highlight for us was the clean saltwater pool set amidst lovely tropical gardens. The owner kindly upgraded our room and let us check in early - thank you! Rooms were clean, cool and comfortable. Bonus: Casa Merlin is a quick walk to one of the prettiest beaches around AND is walking distance to our favourite restaurant in town, Spicy Coconut!

The only con I can think of is that the walls seemed quite thin. That said, this hotel seems to attract a quieter kind of traveler, so it was a non-issue for us.
