I would highly recommend this place

Chad and his entire family were so friendly! They were accommodating on both the front and back end of our short trip. The place was immaculately cleaned before our stay. The common areas were nice to hang out in by the water and the owners joined us - many laughs were had! Extremely kind people who made our first experience at Houghton Lake a good one.

The listing is misleading in regards to what type of stay you are getting. Prior to arriving, we were under the impression based on the pictures that we would be staying in a lake cottage that was on the lake, with a back deck attached to it. The picture showing the deck is not attached to the cottage, nor is it available for use. Additionally, it was not noted that the cottage you are staying in is in a community of other cottages, with shared amenity use. We we're very disappointed upon arrival to discover this, as we were very much looking forward to having our own cottage space with the deck overlooking the lake. The listing was priced on the higher end, and by the posted pictures was not a super nice accomodation. I justified the price by expecting we would have that deck space available. Additionally, the fridge and freezer were not plugged in at check in, and there were spiders and bugs all around the unit which made our stay slightly uncomfortable. There were no check out instructions, and the checkout time is a little early. Additionally, the other units on the property seem to be under renovation which was a little bit of an eye sore for a lake cottage stay. As the host, please make your listing more accurate for future guests so they know what accomodations they are receiving.

Chad has great communication and check in and out was a breeze.

The picture of the deck was not from the cabin/rental. We thought were on the water out the deck, Not so. We drove 6 hrs to this place and would not again. If you are close and want a rustic cabin this is your place. Beautiful area. When we ventured out and had lunch it was wonderful. Sunset is beautiful if you bring a chair and venture away from cabin. Wish we would of known we were able to rent a pontoon.

This property included kayaks, paddle boards, grill, beach chairs. It is a very short walk to the beach. Everyone was very friendly. There is no air conditioning which was fine the first couple of nights, but it got toasty on the 90° day.

Everything we needed for a long wkend

Owner was very responsive to any questions we had. We were able to have our coffee every morning by the lake! We enjoyed our stay and will definitely consider booking future trips here!
