The Vintage House - Douro

Beautiful inside and out in a magical location.

The occasional large river boat that would moor outside and leave its generator on overnight

Amazing location in centre of Pinhao. Easy to walk to other Quintas and explore the village. Fascinating history.

For a 5* property I was surprised by certain things. Staff who seemed generally ambivalent rather than welcoming. Pillows that had seen better days - very flat. No bathrobes. Very few sockets in the room - and in difficult to use locations. And the biggest disappointment was being told that the Rabelo restaurant was only open on the terrace on an evening that was unseasonably chilly. We did not want to be ‘forced ‘ to eat outside in 16 degrees - and getting cooler. So we chose to leave and look for an alternative option. For the price we paid I expected more

We loved the location. Fabulous view and very relaxing atmosphere. Also really enjoyed all of our dinning experiences which included breakfast each day and we also had a lunch and dinner there.

The view from the room of the Douro River and vineyards was fantastic. The pool was also nice and had a great view. We also enjoyed the breakfast room and options they presented. The breakfast staff were attentive and polite. Plenty of parking for our rental car. Loved the location as a central point for port tastings.

With the exception of the breakfast servers we found the staff a bit unfriendly compared to our hotels on our trip. The bar staff were very unfriendly and in one instance a bit rude to my wife. Pool service was terrible, frequently out of towels, hard to get a drink because you had to call and wait forever. Oh and be careful using wooden lounge chairs because a few of them were in such bad shape someone could get hurt! Lastly, the room was worn, peeling wallpaper, trim board gaps, not a 5 star room.
