What we liked: Super comfy beds. Location is amazing, in beautiful Grasmere, surrounded by mountains, close to some lovely pubs and restaurants and a short bus ride or hike to the town of Ambleside. Lovely thick towels. Fully equipped kitchen. Comfy lounge. Cosy and warm. We loved our stay.

Difficult to access parking space (entrance to space is very narrow, even for our small car, plus very difficult to manoeuvre into due to cars parked opposite entrance. Property is clean but not spotless (light switches were grubby and cooker hob was greasy in between the dials) considering the late check in/check out times I would expect the cleaning to be thorough. Lower floor smells a bit damp, but I guess it’s to be expected in a property of it’s age.

The location was perfect, tucked away in a quiet lane but less than a minute's walk from the pubs, cafes, shops etc. of Grasmere. The cottage was really comfortable, and the bedrooms being downstairs was a welcome bonus as it meant they stayed lovely and cool during the recent heatwave. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the window upstairs gave us a gorgeous view while we enjoyed our breakfast. And the neighbours were lovely, coming out to see if we needed help with the parking!

Although it wasn't dirty by any means, certain areas could do with a deep clean. There were a number of spiders upstairs, which wasn't a huge problem, but from the amount of cobwebs, it was clear they'd been there a while. The toaster was full of crumbs and a number of the dishes needed to be rewashed before we could use them. As for the parking, there seems to be mixed reviews on whether or not the space is too small. And honestly, unless you have a very narrow city car, you will struggle. I wouldn't say our car is big (2 Series), but my partner had to tuck the wingmirrors in and reverse down the lane while I guided him through, and even with the mirrors tucked, the car was almost touching the walls on either side of the narrowest part of the lane. To make things more difficult, there's also a bollard in the parking space so you need to be careful not to drive over it. If you make it down the lane, the space is big enough, but getting there will be tight. We ended up parking in Red Bank car park from our second night onwards, which is only a couple of minutes walk from the cottage.

Great Location and easy access to all of the Village facilities.
