Will not go back there
Dinner had to be bought, breakfast was included in our plan. Food was good.
The only room where guest can have breakfast or dinner is designed like a bar. The room has a counter with (too) high chairs and deep sofas with low tables. Sofas are aligned along the wall - you cannot face your family members or friends with whom you are sharing the meal. The entire arrangement of chairs and tables is unsuitable for comfortable eating. You need to balace the plates on your knees. Everybody get's served at the same time. It's impossible to share something with your family/friends without everyone else present being part of the conversation. - It seems that the owner tried someting special, maybe "Western". It's a pity, because if there was a simple restaurant arrangement with tables, 4 chairs each, I would give the place 4 stars. - Not five because all rooms are located right above the pig stall with its typical smell. Ours (1st floor) was right above the pigs... My daughter didn't like the chicken hoop next to the pigs. The rooster kept her from sleeping in...

Grateful for the truely memorable, rich and eventful time at Umah Saren Homestay!
Wyan, the owner and his family were really lovely, extremely helpful, friendly, generous & inclusive. They even taught me how to make these little prayer baskets,
Amazing location and view from the balcony of the top villas. To road to the homestay narrows & the last part is not accessible by car. You need to walk down a winding path that leads through a banana jungle until you finally reach the court yard of Umah Saren. The setting is truely Balinese with an open pavilion, several big carp aquariums, lovely garden feartured. Rice fields, waterfalls, organic vanilla farm & a great Warung in walking distance from the homestay.
Umah Saren is one of those few peaceful & non-touristy spots in Bali where you can witness and become part of the local life.
The only thing I would like to suggest to improve is the selection of breakfasts on offer.

Incredible place with soul and views
Host and everyone around are soooo nice and kind. Beautiful view of nature with rice fields. Tukand cepung waterfall very close and several other ones as well. Breakfast omellete and coffee. Total family vibes.
For someone might be unpleasent smell from pigs and sounds of roosters from 5am.

Pack your own breakfast, the one they supply isn't worth eating.
The view is spectacular. Set on the high side of a valley. A Beautiful forest for as far as you can see. The perfect Bali stay
Breakfast. Actually, I wouldn't even call it that. A few pre packaged plasticcy cakes and a Bali coffee served with condensed milk. This should not be called Breakfast.
There was mould in the room. The wall between the bedroom and the bathroom. All the paint in the room was bubbled.

Clean, new rooms with functional air conditioning, immersed in the green. Close to waterfalls.
- The property was far from everything, there was only one Eco Lodge nearby (3 mins on scooter and 16 mins walk) which had a restaurant, otherwise it’s hard to know where to go and eat.
- There are some rooms upstairs and 3 downstairs. We had 2 rooms downstairs and one upstairs. The downstairs rooms are directly above a pig sty which smells really bad so sitting outside and enjoying the green view was not an option at any moment of the day. The stench would also come into the rooms (not as strongly) because the doors were not 100% sealed. Our friend upstairs said the smell was not as bad on his level but he could still smell it. It really affected our stay and I’m surprised it’s not mentioned in any of the other reviews.
- the property is accessed by a small path, which is fine, but there are neighbours who live along that path who own vicious dogs. The gate is never closed and the dogs run out and bark aggressively at us because they don’t know us. My friend was bitten in the back of the leg by one of the dogs, we were not aggressive and did not interact with the dogs. This was right after the dogs had aggressively chased me and my two young children. So we asked the hotel to tell the neighbours to keep the gate closed. After that we walked by another 5 times and the gates were always open and the dogs were running free. One more time they ran out and barked really aggressively towards us so we shouted to the neighbours to close their gate. This is not a safe place to stay for young children due to the dogs.
- on the last day, the manager asked us for double the money we had agreed for the scooters we hired but we suspect it might have been a communication issue. Still, we thought we were agreeing to 60,000 INR per day per scooter which is exactly what we paid everywhere else in Bali but they said we should be paying 120,000 INR per scooter per day. This was excessive, whether there was a communication error or not.
