We had a wonderful stay at Ryokan Mugen and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto. Tome and her husband were incredibly welcoming, kind and helpful from the moment we arrived. They made us feel genuinely at home and went out of their way to make our stay special. Their hospitality really made the experience memorable (particularly the traditional breakfast). The ryokan itself is beautiful, peaceful and full of traditional Japanese character, while still being very comfortable. It was also a great base for exploring Kyoto, with many of the city’s sights easily accessible (Tome also knows some hidden tourist gems). What really stood out was the warmth and personal touch from Tome and her husband. They were always happy to help with recommendations and advice, and their attention to detail made us feel very well looked after. A truly lovely place to stay in Kyoto, we would happily stay here again.

That we had to leave!

We really enjoyed our stay at Ryoken Mugen. It was truly exceptional. The hosts, Tome and her husband, were so kind, helpful and really went out of their way to make our stay the best we experienced in Japan. We especially appreciated sharing whiskey and sake with Tome during our stay! We would definitely visit again. Thank you.

Everything. Tome is such an exceptional host. Location and service espectacular.

Everything was perfect.

The Ryokan itself was very clean, and full of character with comfort! We had a great sleep, and were made to feel so welcome with Tome and her family. The breakfast was delicious, and the opportunity to chat in the bar and learn more about the local area and Japan were a real trip highlight.
