Firstly, it was lovely to stay in an independently owned hotel where the staff clearly have great pride in their hotel and ensuring that guests are happy with their stay.
Everyone was charming and helpful.
The breakfast was lovely and the evening meal, although not an extensive menu, was freshly prepared and nicely presented.
In the evenings this is an extremely popular pub with locals and visitors. The bars were absolutely packed and in the Corn Exchange next door was an AC/DC tribute band. We really enjoyed the lively atmosphere (and we're in our 70's).
Two things to take into consideration:
The stairs are extremely winding and steep. Ask for help with your luggage if you need to. It won't be a problem.
The entrance to the car park is very tight, through a narrow archway. Unless you have a small car don't attempt to turn in from the High Street. Turn up the road opposite the entrance, turn round and come back down facing the archway and enter it square on. Enjoy your stay.

Everything about the kings head was to our liking. We had a wonderfully quiet room at the back and really comfortable beds with crisp white sheets. The breakfast was well cooked and the staff warm and friendly.
