Adventure Hotel Hellissandur

The breakfast buffet was exceptional

They’ll tell itself was nice and clean. However, the restaurant was very limited. We ended up, with the advice of the stuff, driving 10 now minutes to a beautiful and great restaurant.

This hotel is the perfect location to explore the Snæfellsnes peninsula. The visitor center is a short walk away and the village is pleasant to walk through, especially Love Street by the water. The rooms are exactly what we were looking for: a place to sleep and stash gear while we explored. The restaurant was great for breakfast and dinner. Where this hotel excels is the service! Friendly and helpful.

When I sat down to write this, I was intending to give this hotel less than a 5-Star rating. This is because when I showed up to check in, there was a sign at the unmanned reception desk that they were doing "Self Checkins" that night, with absolutely no directions on how to accomplish that. There was a number listed to call in case of problems, but the cell service on my US phone was spotty pretty much everywhere in Iceland. It took multiples times of restarting my phone to get a mobile operator connection (while sweating bullets for about half an hour over the prospect of having to spend the night in the lobby) and talked to someone that directed me on how to get into my room. The hotel had emailed me those directions, but I was way too busy to check my mail while travelling. To be fair, this apparently was a "one-off" and not a frequent occurrence at his hotel. They apparently had some kind of an issue that night. As far as the hotel and room, I have no complaints whatsoever. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. However, a TV in the room would have been nice. The staff (the next day) was exceptionally friendly and helpful. This is a good central location from which to explore the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.
