The larger town of Clifden is 30 minutes. Clifden hosts art, theatre, literary, film and music festivals as well as the Connemara Pony Show in mid-August. Oyster and mussel festivals are also held. The drive to Galway (80 km) through the Inagh Valley and Oughterard is spectacular. Historic Kylemore Abbey with its Gothic Church, Pottery Making, Walled Garden and Craft Shop is a 15 minute drive.The Renvyle Penninsula has something for everyone - hill walking, mountain climbing, fishing, scuba-diving, boat rental, island hopping (Innisbofin and Clare Islands), horse riding, golf, pubs and the craic
