You’ll be just minutes from everything there is to do in and around Mount Pleasant, a charming suburb of Charleston. This quiet neighborhood is ideal for a leisurely walk or bike ride, and no matter which direction you head, you’ll find yourself drawn toward sandy beaches, winding marsh creeks, incredible restaurants, or the iconic Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge—offering stunning views and a fantastic pedestrian crossing experience.
Nestled in the neighborhood known as the Old Village, you’ll also find The Old Bridge (Pitt Street Bridge), which once connected Sullivan’s Island to Mount Pleasant during the Civil War era. Today, it has been transformed into a beautiful park surrounded by the Intracoastal Waterway—perfect for fishing, crabbing, shrimping, or simply watching the sun set over Charleston from one of the benches.
Dining along Shem Creek offers some of Charleston’s finest seafood, where you can watch shrimp boats dock and kayakers paddle by. A local playground is approximately ¾ of a mile away and includes public clay tennis courts. The Pitt Street area of the Old Village offers a glimpse into what Mount Pleasant felt like as Charleston first expanded onto the surrounding islands.
The home is just minutes from Sullivan’s Island, home to Fort Moultrie, where the first shots of the Civil War were fired. The fort and museum are free to visit. Overall, our stay was fine. A few issues: The electrical wiring in the carport seemed unsafe and possibly a fire hazard that concerned us. There was a hole in the wall in one of the bedrooms (seemed just cosmetic). Some floor patch work in another room. Wobbly and loud ceiling fan in another. All the beds were comfortable but very squeaky and loud (you could hear others adjusting and getting in and out of bed). It's definitely an older home and needed a little TLC, but overall, adequate. The inflatable mattress and extra linens worked great for our teen. And we enjoyed the front and back porch (with lots of bug spray). The A/C worked great and the house stayed cool. It was a few blocks to a couple of restaurants, but with the heat and bugs, walking wasn't a great option, but we enjoyed the home being fairly close to the beach, lighthouse and ferry at Patriots Point.
