There’s something about a visit to Newfoundland that changes you. The rugged landscape, steeped in legendary heritage, offers a fresh perspective on the world. Here, it’s easy to lose yourself—whether you’re stepping through the door of our century-old oceanfront "biscuit box" house, nestled against the rocky cliffs of Bay Roberts, or simply letting the place work its quiet magic. This cozy retreat offers unparalleled views of the bay, with the vast Atlantic Ocean.
Built in 1919, our humble fisherman’s cottage—with its low ceilings, exposed beams, and simple charm—is the perfect refuge to watch fishing boats and icebergs drift by, or to take in the drama of a storm rolling in from the sea.
Wake to the sunrise casting golden light over the Atlantic, sip your morning coffee in the salty breeze on the deck, and pick wild blueberries from the rocky cliff that rises behind the house. Be still—curl up under a quilt with a cup of tea and a good book, letting the quiet wrap around you.
Or set out for adventure on the Shoreline Heritage Trail. The trailhead of this renowned 6 km coastal walk is just 400 meters from the front door. Wander along windswept cliffs, wide beaches, sheltered coves, and rugged headlands. Listen for the blow of whales following the capelin into the bay, and feel the exhilaration of waves crashing at MadRocks. Don’t miss the nearby MadRocks Café, where you’ll find a warm Newfoundland welcome—and one of their famous toutons.
Freshly updated yet full of heritage character, our little red house by the sea retains its original charm. Please note: ceiling heights on the main floor and doorways are approximately 6’1”, with steep stairs and some uneven floors—authentic quirks of its 100+ year history.
Live like a bayman as you explore hidden coves, seaside trails, cozy restaurants, and charming outport communities along the eastern shore. Just five minutes from Bay Roberts and an hour from St. John's and the airport, this oceanfront cottage is the ideal base for day trips to places like Brigus, Trinity, Bonavista, and beyond.

It has a lot of charm.

Staying at this beautiful, quaint and historic cottage was like jumping in a Time Machine and going back to a more relaxing time in history. Its compact quirky nature was one of the aspects we enjoyed the most along with the location and stunning views.
The property is very clean, well stocked and has a great guidebook with solid recommendations for all your local activities.
There is much to explore nearby and the views in every direction are breathtaking.
The Shoreline Heritage Trail is one of the greatest hikes I’ve ever experienced with an amazing “history lesson” included and scenery unlike anything you’ve encountered before.
The Madrock Cafe is a fantastic place for breakfast or lunch with delicious traditional delicacies and a super friendly staff and owners.
Jungle Jim’s Eatery is another fine local choice and all amenities are located nearby.
Even if you don’t do the entire trail head down to the end of the road to Mad Rocks and climb up for a very special experience.
Overall it was a highly enjoyable, albeit too brief, stay at a very unique and special property!

Such a cool little spot! We loved it! We were slightly disappointed to realize some of the photos of the beaches etc. were not directly on the property, but everything was within a short walking distance. Would definitely recommend!
