Welcome to High Country Escape, your peaceful mountain retreat nestled against the national forest in Heber-Overgaard. Whether you're escaping the Phoenix heat, planning a romantic weekend, or exploring the Rim Lakes with your pup, this cozy-yet-spacious two-bedroom cabin is the perfect place to relax and recharge.
Inside, you’ll find a warm open-concept layout with leather recliners, a wood-burning stove, and a fully stocked kitchen for cooking in. The fast WiFi makes it easy to stay connected or stream your favorite show. Outside, unwind by the propane fire table, grill up dinner, or watch for wildlife right from the deck — past guests have even spotted wild horses!
The fenced backyard is ideal for pets and kids, and a jetted tub awaits after a long day of hiking, exploring, or simply soaking in the silence of the pines.

Come here to get "away-from-it-all" while still being "close-to-everything". Perfect for all seasons, the high-country hometown of Heber-Overgaard offers access to several lakes in the region, numerous off-road trails and quaint small town shops. Enjoy hiking, fishing, and kayaking in the summer, or cozy up by the fire after a day of snow trekking in the winter. . Willow Springs and Woods Canyon Lake are a short drive away plus you don't want to miss the majestic views of the Mogollon Rim with a scenic drive to the Rim Vista Overlook Trail.

We welcome your furry friends! Up to 2 dogs are allowed with a $100 pet fee. Considering this is a home, not a hotel, we kindly ask you to treat the space with care. While we strive to address any issues promptly, please note that there is no on-site staff available 24/7. However, we’re just a message away if you need assistance! To finalize your booking, a separate rental agreement is required.

For a stress-free getaway, we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance—especially during winter months when unexpected weather or illness can disrupt travel plans. Reservations become non-refundable after a certain point, so having coverage ensures you’re protected from last-minute changes due to road closures, flight delays, or unforeseen circumstances.
This property has special local compliance requirements which include a signed rental agreement, ID verification, and security deposit. We know security deposits are annoying, so to make it easier on you we have 2 options that you can choose between:
Option 1: Damage Waiver ($47) - Have a worry-free stay with coverage for up to $1,500 for accidental damage (spills, breaks, mishaps) with no surprise charges. Just relax and enjoy your stay. Coverage up to 10 nights, +$5/day for longer stays, and provided by a third-party insurance company.
Option 2: Security Deposit ($1,000) - Refundable temporary hold that releases after your stay.
To make this process easy for you, we use a secure and very simple, app-free platform called Happy Guest. It is not an app, and you do not have to sign up for an account - it's a safe and secure website. It also gives you a guest portal with all the info about the home and all of my favorite local spots.
Your guest portal includes advertisements with third-party upgrades that you may want to enhance your stay. These upgrades are optional and include:

Clean and comfortable. TV and internet good. Couldn’t enjoy the home as much as we wanted. There was a family emergency so we weren’t here very much.

We liked that the posted pictures matched the cabin exactly so we felt like we got what we paid for. The kitchen had all the basic necessary cooking equipment and not a lot of stuff that wasn't necessary. The fenced back yard was perfect for our dogs to run around in but make sure you don't leave your pets, or kids, alone in the back yard due to it does butt right up against forest land. The property management was very responsive and pleasant to deal with. The only thing we wished for, that we did not have, was kindling. The property offers firewood bundles for sale, and we had two bundles delivered, but then had to come up with our own kindling. We would definitely stay here again.

No secure place for garbage. Bear got into ours and garbage was all over the fenced in area. The furniture is worn. Dirty and warn floor mats in kitchen and bathrooms. Low rated products included - toliet paper (which we had to purchase) tissues - NO bath soap, just small tubes and our stay was for 7 days. No disinfectant sprays for kitchen counter tops or bath. Kitchen inside drawers disorganized and dirty. Under the kitchen sink was visibly dirty. A vacuum was left in the living room FULL with floor dust/hair, etc. Carpet in downstairs bedroom just nasty. When we stay at a VBRO or even a hotel, there are an amount of cleanliness that most are accustomed. The downstairs bedroom closet had a roll-away bed and we had the smallest of room to hang our clothes in the closet.
