Just a few minutes’ walk away is the Waterhead Pier. Catch one of the steamers to explore the lake, or jump off at nearby Bowness. For a fun-filled day out, halfway down Windermere is Lakeside, where you can catch the Lakeside and Haverside Steam Railway journeying along the contrasting lake and river scenes. Ambleside itself is a popular tourist spot with numerous cafes, restaurants and shops. It is a popular destination for walkers and climbers, with many stunning walks available from the front door. Make sure to visit the spectacular Stock Ghyll Force, a 70-foot waterfall, or the famous Bridge House. Hayes Garden World is an excellent all weather attraction, with an outside terraced tea room overlooking the surrounding fells, and be sure to check their events calendar for something for all the family to enjoy.
