Tru By Hilton Montréal centre-ville

We did lots of research on hotels in Montreal and chose Tru because of our experience with their brand in other locations. The hotel is very new and modern. The staff is friendly and efficient. Rooms are good size. We had a king bed. The HVAC is easy to control for comfort. The bathroom is a good size with a large shower that has great water pressure. There's a small fridge in the room which is nice. I love the blackout curtains. Breakfast is a buffet with the same thing every morning. Nothing gourmet, but it gets you going and the coffee is good. The from desk is open 24 hours and has food and drink options available. We asked for extra towels and pillows and they were brought quickly. There's a sign in the room that says they only do service every other day, but it was every day while we were there. The number one reason we liked this hotel was the proximity to the metro. It's right across the street from Place Dupuis and the Berri-UQAM metro stop. You can get anywhere you need to go from here. We bought a 3 day pass and definitely got our money's worth! The neighborhood is very walkable with lots of restaurants , pubs, and entertainment, and there is an IGA grocery right across the street as well. There are full size bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand soap, and lotion in the bathroom.

There were only a couple of minor things that I noticed. First, there is nowhere in the shower to put your own products. They offer full size shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand soap, and lotion in the bathroom, but it would be nice to have a small shelf to hold a razor or other personal products. Second, there is no enclosed storage for clothing, or no closet or dresser. There is a rod with hangers above the mini fridge, but there is little space. Third, just a weird design decision, the ceiling is painted to look like a dirty concrete floor. Not really in keeping with the rest of the new, clean, fresh vibe.

The hotel is new, the rooms are very clean, and the staff is friendly and ready to help at any time. There is plenty of information at the reception, and in the hallway near the elevator entrance, there is drinking water, decaf coffee, tea, and hot chocolate—all complimentary and available at any time of day or night.

Unfortunately, breakfast was a disaster! There was almost nothing to eat—not even a slice of cheese or cold cuts... under no circumstances is this a proper breakfast for a three-star hotel that also carries the Hilton name in its official title.

The district was a bit dodgy overall though it was easily reachable by public transport. The hotel and the decor felt more like an upmarket youth hostel - not quite what was expected from the brand. WiFi was OK though not always working optimally.
