The Angler Hotel

I read some reviews and saw some photos and was very worried about staying here before we arrived. The positives are the people greeting us were lovely and they escorted us to our room which was room 7 and gave us the code to the door to use in the evening after 10pm. It is a large room for a couple so space was fine. It was clean and fresh linens were provided. It is very central to Oakham so the location is very good. This is an old building so there are a few issues but we only stayed one night so it was fine for us.

I wouldn't say these were negatives but things that could be improved upon. There was a smell to the room like damp but there was no damp it just need the windows opening to air the room and an air freshener would help. The window does need repairing and in our opinion you don't need the sofa in there, move that out and put in a single wardrobe for clothes and provide a hair dryer, always a plus in hotels. The bathroom was clean but show signs of damp on the floor tiles near the bath and on the wood on the bath panel, maybe replace the panel altogether as that will not improve as its wood. A decent shower over the bath would also be a plus. The bed was very soft but this is just personal preference some people do like a soft bed but in general the mattress could do with being firmer. I also think an all grey room just doesn't always work and in this hotel I would use a different colour to brighten it up, maybe neutral but lighter and warmer colours, like the stone wall in the bathroom, those colours would be lovely. 😊

Great location and comfortable bed

On booking.com the information said that there was a hair dryer in the room. There wasn’t- we asked at reception and were told that there wasn’t any. I had to buy one 😡😡

Poor service such as bathroom shampoos , changing the sheets every morning
