The Bull Hotel

The warm welcome we received from the young lady behind the bar (Chloe) I think was very refreshing. Very happy, and pleased to see us. Her politeness, and helpfulness was inspirational. The room looked good from the pictures, great size, and with a good size bathroom. The pictures were right, when you see in person. Sadly the only problem was the bathroom step was very un-safe we kept missing it.... Needs a notice or markings on the floor to highlight the step. The noise from below, (The refrigerators) was too noisy and disrupted our sleep. The location was excellent, and it was nice to meet some of the locals. We spoke to the Bar Manager who had called in, and we discussed about how the pub had no food available, as this would have been a bonus, but none available...

Value for money was excellent, but if you want more clients, you have to do something about the noise when paying to stay in the bedroom we stayed in . Our stay would have been so much nicer, and exceeded our expectations, because you could not fault the rest.

Nice big room, friendly staff. Bed very nice and comfortable. Good shower. Lots of parking. If you were social it looks like a good pub to get a drink, meet locals and listen to music.

There was a loud mechanical noise that went on all night - I suspect it was the ceiling air fan. It was very intrusive and would have kept many people awake.

It was very quaint with beams and sloping floors. It had plenty of character. The breakfast was wonderful though I only tried it once the manager was very friendly and easy to talk to. I was born in Salisbury 69 years ago at the hospital just two villages away from the pub so for me it was like going home.

There was nothing I didn’t like. It was all I expected.

Cleanliness perfect. Room very large and spacious, bed supersize too - excellent. Beds, linen, fabulous. Parking very good (but not under the trees, birds above leave their "mark"!). Pub atmosphere good. Pity there were no bedside tables - there's plenty of room for them.

Bathroom (annex, shared) very disappointing. Extract fan only works with the ceiling light on, so shower in the morning got very steamy. There's nothing to tell you this. Bath has no textured surface, no anti-slip mat, no safety handles - not impressed. Also nowhere to hang shower gel etc, no hook, no ledge. Basin taps are handed, so not intuitive to operate - you've replaced lever tops with contract tops, not the best idea. Shower head seriously blocked, hence floods of hot water coming from bottom of unit - GET IT CLEANED! And why can hotels never seem to get the toilet seat mounted squarely on the toilet ? It's really not that hard. In the room, "Tea and coffee".... but no tea provided! TV very modern and flashy - but internet signal so poor it's wasted. Took ages to get it to switch on, many channels not available due to poor signal strength, remote control unit has no key pad and took a while to figure out how it worked (I'm a techy with over 50 years computer and hi fi use - this remote unit is very poor design imho) - but no instructions. And time set on TV was one hour ahead of real time, so TV guide was useless. Yes, I could have looked up the TV programmes on my laptop, except.... the internet signal was so poor I could not get a connection AT ALL, never mind intermittently. And there was no option in the Settings menu I could find for correctly setting the time and date. Sorry, but the whole AV set up for this room really needs a complete re-think. (Annex room 4). The corridor ceiling light was very temperamental in its operation. The room (4) door could not be locked from the outside when we left the room - the key fitted the lock, but would not turn the deadbolt, even though the internal thumbwheel worked fine. The windows cannot be left open with a secure fastening - the window handles/locks look like 1950s original equipment to me.
