Palais Bayram Tunis

Beautiful, historic building with a good location near the edge of the medina so easy to get to if arriving by taxi. It was about 2/3 minute walk via Rue du Chateau. The room was large and spacious (lalla qmar room) and the bed was comfortable. There was a fridge, hair dryer and TV in the room. Shampoo and shower gel provided. There was a mini bar. Breakfast included a boiled egg, warm bread and mini croissants with jam, honey and butter. A salad, cheese and a vegetable stew also included. Didn’t use it but there is a spa on sight - recommend booking in advance if you want a massage.

There are a lot of stairs (and no lift) so not suitable for people with mobility issues. There was no complementary water in our room on arrival. The bed sheets were too small for the bed and you could see the mattress (which did not have a mattress protector on it). The key to the room was really fiddly and difficult to lock (it was an antique lock and We couldn’t lock it from the inside). The rooms are a bit dark. We were originally given the option to stay in the Kheireddin Pacha room but it was very dark and some of the lights didn’t work. It felt a bit musty. The breakfast room could be set up better - we weren’t given any plates, teaspoons etc or offered tea/coffee on arrival (although it was provided on request later). some of the tables were not set for breakfast or clean. If these things are addressed, this place has potential and it’s a fantastic property to be able to stay in more generally.

El personal de 10, muy amable y servicial. Hubo una boda en el patio y estuvimos encantados de ser invitados y poder vivir una experiencia con tanta cultura y tradición. No termino muy tarde así que después pudimos descansar sin problema.

Como pequeña sugerencia las almohadas eran muy altas y un pelín incómodas para mi gusto

The palace is beautiful, well located and very clean. Faouzi and his team are the best. They helped me to surprise my gf for her birthday and were exceptional in everything.

It’s a stunning building, full of beautiful mosaics and tiles. The rooms are full of beautiful character and the bathrooms are modern.

There are no facilities at all - no comfortable common area, no bar (even for coffee or non-alcoholic drinks), the dining room is dark and gloomy and it feels like there is no soul to the place and nobody there. The staff try to be helpful with one exception (the only female member of staff) who is downright rude and dismissive. There is a strong smell of cat urine in parts of the hotel. Also, not that they can change this, but the location is not great especially if you are solo - it is down very quiet dimly lit alleys in the medina and I felt very unsafe walking at night and there are no restaurants or cafes close by so you do have to walk for 5 or 10 minutes through these deserted alleyways to get to the more buzzy part of the medina. I do not understand how this is rated 5 star on booking.com - it’s definitely 3 star due to complete lack of facilities or service. It could easily be a beautiful 5 star hotel with money spent on it and a different approach to service. For example, there is no room service and bathroom toiletries consisted only of one tiny soap and 2 small bottles of shampoo. The one night I did eat dinner at the hotel I was the only person there.
