Our stay in Nagahama was fantastic. We were welcomed by Judo, the young host of the guesthouse, who showed enthusiasm, curiosity, and kindness from the very start. He was attentive to our needs right away and recommended some great places to visit. As an important note, he speaks excellent English! The guesthouse is simple and clean, and the futons were extremely comfortable—I think I had the most relaxing night’s sleep of the entire trip. In the morning, Judo offered to take us on a tour of the town center, sharing stories about his city with great passion. When we return to Japan, we will almost certainly come back to Nagahama; it deserves more than just a single day to be fully explored and appreciated in all its beauty! Guesthouse Mikata is a very comfortable place to stay in a nice town which is certainly worth visiting for a few days while travelling around Japan. Having only opened in March 2026, the facilities are new and comfortable. Our host Judo is a very friendly guy with excellent English, he was flexible with our check-in/checkout process and shared a lot of knowledge and recommendations about where to eat and drink in Nagahama. He also runs a free tour of the town which is certainly worth joining. Wholely recommend this guesthouse and also the town of Nagahama which doesn't see many foreign tourists.

The building is a traditional Japanese guesthouse layout meaning dividing walls are quite thin. Best to use earplugs if you are a light sleeper

My stay at Guest House Mikata was a truly wonderful and pleasant experience. Judo is such a thoughtful and kind owner. He always asked if I needed anything and recommended some lovely restaurants and shops around Nagahama. It's such a charming town! I would love to visit again for the Hikiyama Festival and learn more about its rich history. I will definitely stay here if I visit again. I really loved the vibe in every corner of this guest house.
