Lovely local family-owned stay surrounded by nature
That you're surrounded by beatiful nature, away of the touristic noise and that you can appreciate and feel part of a local Red Dzao family for a few days.
The bungalow is new, with a comfortable bed and a balcony with stunning views.
Furthemore, they're incredibly helpful and flexible, you can eat here locally produced and home made food, plus get one of the famous herbal baths.
I can't recommend highly enough staying at Mama Pham Homestay!

An amazing time at Mama Phams 👏
I had an incredible stay at Mama Pham's. The family are very friendly and hospitable, and they know how to make you feel at home. Nai took me on the most beautiful hike throughout the ethnic villages, as well as having exceptional views of all the rice terraces. It exceeded my expectations. The dinner I had was delicious, and the portions were incredible. I also experienced my first herbal bath, which was interesting and relaxing. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a truly authentic experience, surrounded by the most beautiful views and wonderful people.
The bed was very hard and uncomfortable. I managed to sleep on my back and ended up having a great nights sleep, however I wasn't able to turn on my side at all as it felt very hard. Not a huge problem considering I still slept well, but something softer would be preferable.
The list starts with the title, and continues with detailed explanations on my honest thoughts. Not necessarily positive - so it's worth a read on sections you care about.
1. Hospitality! No money-grubbing. They simply want you to be happy. The best of the Vietnamese people! I slept in the dorms - basically in the family house, next to the kids. Hospitality is so great, you become a part of the family. I was there for 5 nights, feeling fairly antisocial and burnt out at first - just looking for some peace and quiet in the mountains. They gave me my space, letting me eat a meal alone and retire to my room. Eventually I got out of it, and they immediately understood and helped me brighten up. Connection is quick here, and Mama Pham and I cried as I had to leave. You can eat with the family or by yourself, drink with the family in the evenings (happy water aplenty) if you wish for no added price, celebrate with the family when they have happy moments (which happened twice while I was there. Super good food in celebrations), learn about them as you stay in their house...
2. Value for money is incredible for the experiences you get here. Details are in the next points.
3. Food is very tasty and varied. High value for money. This is home-cooking only, so no fancy stuff.. Supposedly, right? Nope. We had hotpot with the village because the family celebrated, and I only paid the standard meal price... Crazy to me, but they insisted.
Specifically on the food: 100k per meal, REGARDLESS OF WHAT IS IN THE MEAL. That isn't super cheap until you understand how much you get fed and how many different things are in each meal - Unlimited rice, meat plate, fish plate, beef, duck, chicken, spring rolls, bamboo, insects sometimes... It changes, but there was always a combination of meat and rice, at the very least. For breakfast there was pancakes with honey & banana or a noodle soup (which I didn't pay for, they included it during my stay.
Full review detailing positive OR MIXED experiences in the "what you liked" section.
Here you will find specific notes and some criticism.
Note for travelers STAYING IN THE DORMS (the bungalow is different!)
This is a rural homestay. You stay in their house, quite literally. Their kids sleep one room over. DO NOT EXPECT proper amenities beyond what they themselves use.
You sleep in a large bed fit for 2 people but in a very tight room. It isn't really a room as much as it is a few bamboo walls put together in larger room to divide it up... So no sound separation, and expect some bugs to potentially appear. I stayed for 5 nights and my room had no visitors, but the guy staying with me had a harmless visitor bug.
Tl;dr - expect a RURAL homestay in the dorm rooms, with all the meaning of it!
Notes on the BUNGALOW:
The bungalow is VERY NEW as of writing this review. A couple months old.
It is very nice for the price in my opinion, especially the view when waking up and the shower is good, but it can get hot in there in the mornings if you don't open the windows as there are fans but no AC in there (which isn't that bad 90% of the day, as it is fairly cold this high up on the mountains!)
It is mostly empty as of now except for beds, hangers and carpet, but it might definitely change and improve as time goes on :)
A friend stayed there for 2 nights while I was there, and he had a wonderful time. These were his only complaints.
Communication Note: Nae, the woman, knows English and Vietnamese.
Mama Pham knows a little English, and no vietnamese. Luu only knows their native language, which is not vietnamese. So.. Communication is difficult, but definitely possible! Mama Pham had WhatsApp as well.
Notes on expectations for a rural stay:
As it is a very rural place in Ta Van, getting there is not easy, as it is up on a hill with a very tight road.
That you're surrounded by beatiful nature, away of the touristic noise and that you can appreciate and feel part of a local Red Dzao family for a few days.
