Keen outdoor enthusiasts can join a myriad of local footpaths to enjoy the seasonal flora and fauna; the Offa''s Dyke trail can be accessed on the Hay Bluff along with the Black Mountains within 20 miles. The quaint town of Hay-on-Wye (16.5 miles), famed for its bookshops and stunning scenery of the River Wye, offers opportunities for canoeing and plenty of picnic spots beside the river. On a fine afternoon, skim stones and watch canoeists paddle the gentle rapids of the riverside beach The Warren 17 miles away.
