Neighbouring Clacton’s wealth of traditional attractions includes golden beaches on either side of the pleasure pier, arcades, water sports and walks along the seafront promenade. Enjoy an ice cream aboard the little summer train that runs a mile along the coast to Holland-on-Sea. Frinton-on-Sea (6 miles) has a charming period atmosphere, with a beautiful esplanade, perfect for a leisurely stroll, grass-topped cliffs and Victorian-style painted beach huts. Hunt for fossils on the beach at Walton-on-the-Naze (6.5 miles) and from here, take a wildlife boat trip around the Hamford Water Reserve with a chance of spotting seals and rich bird life.
