THE MOUNTAIN GEM, A LOG CHALET AT 11,000 FEET
Three private acres, dense spruce on every side, and mountain ridgelines past the trees. The nearest thing to a neighbour is a lot of trees.
WHERE EVERYONE SLEEPS
Three floors, which for a group of twelve matters more than the bed count does. The people who are up at six and the people who are up at midnight never have to negotiate.
- Upper floor: two king bedrooms, each with its own full ensuite
- Middle floor: the master. King bed, walk-in shower, walk-in closet
- Basement: a king plus a built-in double bunk, comfortable for four
- 4.5 bathrooms, so the morning queue is not a thing here
THE ROOM THAT DOES THE WORK
Thirty-foot vaulted ceilings, custom pine beams, and a stone fireplace that runs the full height of the wall. Windows on three sides, all of them looking into trees. The dining table seats eight to twelve, so the whole house eats together instead of in shifts.
SAUNA, HOT TUB, AND THE TREES
A cedar barrel sauna tucked under the deck against the stone chimney. An eight-person hot tub on the lower patio, string lights overhead, facing straight into the trees. On a clear night at this elevation there is very little light to compete with.
THE GARAGE GREW UP
It is a games room now: pool table, ping pong, darts, cornhole, a TV and a beer fridge. There is a full arcade as well. This is where everyone ends up after dinner, and it is the reason a snowed-in afternoon is a feature rather than a problem.
THREE ACRES YOU CAN ACTUALLY USE
Hiking trails on the property in summer; in winter the same slopes become sledding hills, and we keep the sleds. World-class skiing is a drive away, but you can spend an entire day outside without getting back in the car.
THE KITCHEN, FOR PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY COOK
Three coffee makers: a K-cup, a pour-over and a French press. Viking cookware and Cuisinart stainless pans. Gas range, KitchenAid appliances, chef's knives, air fryer. Spices, oils and pantry staples already in the cupboard. A gas Weber on the deck.
SONOS THROUGHOUT
A premium Sonos system runs through the house, so the music follows you from the kitchen to the great room.
IF YOU HAVE TO WORK, WORK
Starlink throughout, and a proper office: a dedicated workstation with a 34-inch monitor and a docking station. Plug in, close the door, and be on the trail or in the sauna by five.
THE REC ROOM
Lower level. Large sectional, Roku TV, a wet bar, and a kids' corner with games. Walks straight out to the hot tub patio.
