For coastal day trips, ancient fishing village Polruan is 12 miles; catch the ferry from here to Fowey, a medieval market town with a maze of narrow lanes and a selection of shops, bars and restaurants to satisfy every appetite. Alternatively, head a similar distance to Lantic Bay, where the water is crystal clear and the sands are seldom packed, or Looe, much-loved for its iconic harbour wall and linked to Liskeard by the scenic Looe Valley railway line.

First, you’ll reach the three bedrooms and a bathroom, located just off the main hallway. For ultimate flexibility, one room has a double bed, one has a super-king-size zip-and-link bed which can be made up as twins on request, and the other has a single bed with an additional trundle bed below. An en-suite shower room to the double bedroom completes the convenience for all. Leave your luggage in your bedroom of choice, then head on into the apartment’s main social space, a stylish L-shaped open-plan room with a feature exposed stone wall at one end. A contemporary kitchen has all the must-haves of home, plus bar-style seating at one of its counters. A chic dining suite is close by; cook, eat and set the dishwasher to work, then take your seat in the lounge area where you can watch TV and discuss your next day’s adventures. There’s no garden space here, but the village is surrounded by verdant countryside and, just 3 miles south, Deerpark Forest is a great spot for picnics and walks
