Über diese cottage dieses Ferienunterkunft
Sleeps up to four — perfect for couples or families.
The Cottage is a charming, characterful retreat near Kingsbridge, Salcombe, and Dartmouth in south Devon.
Step inside through the orangery — a light-filled, plant-filled space with a canary yellow sofa facing straight out over the valley. It's the kind of room you'll find yourself sitting in longer than planned. If you're up early enough you may see deer on the hillside.
A picnic table and garden seating sit just outside the orangery entrance, sharing the same valley outlook.
The main cottage is full of period character — beamed ceilings run through the lounge, bedrooms, and kitchen, giving the place a warmth that newer properties simply don't have. The cosy lounge centres on a woodburner in a traditional fireplace, flanked by two sofas, a smart TV, DVD player, and strong fibre-optic WiFi. On a cold evening with the fire lit and the beams above you, it's hard to leave.
The master bedroom has a king-size bed, the second bedroom has twin beds. Space for a cot is available if needed. Towels are provided throughout.
Fully equipped kitchen for farmhouse breakfasts. Includes oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, and a dining table for four.
Outside, the hot tub sits in a screened courtyard — sheltered and relaxing. The tub is heated and ready 365 days per year. A lounge pod in the garden offers a sheltered, quiet spot for drinks and valley views.
Guests have access to a shared gym (treadmills, bikes, TRX, free weights, and punch bags) and a pool table (bring a £1 coin to play which you can reuse). The extensive DVD library lives here too.
The Cottage is situated in Dunstone, a tiny hamlet on the edge of a gentle valley and just a couple of miles from Beesands, a large beach at the end of a lane, with fishing boats pulled up on the shore and The Cricket Inn close enough that you can smell lunch from the waterline. Quieter than it deserves to be.
Mattiscombe: A steep walk down through farmland to a beach that has no facilities, no café, and no crowds — just sand, rock pools, and the kind of quiet that's getting harder to find. Worth every step of the walk back up.
Lannacombe: Accessed down a lane so narrow you'll question your decisions, and completely worth it. A small, wild cove that most people drive straight past. Take a picnic and keep it to yourself.
Historic Salcombe is easily reached via the pedestrian ferry at East Portlemouth, and Dartmouth is a scenic drive away.
Our closest pub is The Millbrook Inn, South Pool: A proper village local in a creek-side hamlet that feels like it's barely changed in decades. Low ceilings, good beer, and a short menu that takes the local catch seriously.
The Pig's Nose, East Prawle: One of those pubs that's become a destination in its own right — It sits in Devon's most southerly village, which already feels like the edge of the world. Great walks start from the village green.
Farm shops and cafes nearby: Stokeley, Springfield, Village Farm Cafe (East Portlemouth).
Activities abound: South West Coast Path walks, sailing, surfing, paddleboarding, fishing, crabbing, rock pooling, golf, and National Trust properties including Overbecks, Greenway, and Coleton Fishacre. Kingsbridge has a cinema and leisure centre; Plymouth and Exeter make easy day trips.
We welcome one well-behaved dog. The area is really popular with dog walkers, whether it's walking the coastal path or the beaches. Almost all of the local pubs and restaurants are dog friendly. We have a couple of nice walks right from the doorstep here.
